Have been busy with 40 Fords. Took a break and got the old fuely out of mothballs and drove it around-nothing like the feel and sound of a high winding fuel injected solid lifter car. Takes an old guy back 50 years !!! Never rode in one back in the late 50's-early 60's but did run against a few at Madera, Raisin City, Ballico and Half Moon Bay with my 57 tripower Pontiac. They usually ran B/S stick and I ran B/SA so we ran for eliminator. Found this one 37 years ago and have restored it twice-wife ran it at Fremont and Sears Pt in the early 80's-last time was May 1982-have the poster on the wall. Took it out tonite and leaned on it pretty good-felt like old times.

a '57 fulie, dream of my misspent youth! Was in high school when they came out and drooled over them at Rhinebeck Chevrolet showroom. If you had one in the late 50s you were a "big dawg". Now to have one like olscrounger, you are a damn lucky guy.

Great looking 57. I too remember the great sound of those solid lifter motors. Have fun. That's what life is all about.

  16. Nice car, thanks for sharing. You're sure right about the feel and sound of a good running solid lifter 283.

  17. Another "thumbs up" for the sound of solids and a lumpy cam; always preferred that to loud pipes..

Cool. Back in the early 60's my older brother was pretty heavy into the local street racing thing and I remember him and his buddys hanging out talking about a black 57 fuely that was around, reportedly the fastest car in town then.
Made a big impression on me at 8 years old, for years I always thought they must be the baddest car there was!
Thanks for jogging my memories as well.

I always wanted a black '57 Fuelie. Your's is gorgeous. What kind of times did it run in 1982?

THX all--car ran 14's with 4.56 gears at about 95 mph-as stated last run in 1982-Fremont. Think I'm gonna start driving it more and building less-at least while the weather is good.
