In the last 2 1/2 years, I have sold five cars, two HAMB friendly, 3 OT. I sold all of them for asking price to the first person who came to look. I cleaned them inside and out, spotless. I had them all running well. It amazes me the number of people who put cars for sale (especially on craigslist) that are dirty, filthy, dusty, filled with fast food wrappers and say "ran when parked," etc. A clean, running car will bring much more than a dirty, non-running car any day. As a car dealer friend of mine says, "Why should I buy a pig in a poke?" A little effort is worth a lot of money.

This is the key...runs fine is one thing, running and driving and stopping, is $$another, plus time.

I've learned that many people think "help me get it running"...means to them "It's ready to go cross country".

But plus one to those who say get it cleaned up, fired up-even from a remote fuel source, can be explained to anyone that the car was restored 10/15 years ago and been sitting and the time to go through everything else isn't in the cards, hence why it's being sold.

Does your friend have the fathers receipts for the work, or any documentation, like pics, notes, etc?

    What the heck??
A car setting for ten years in climate controlled storage is not a barn find.
Dust and not being started for a long period is not a prerequisite.
Clean it and fire it up.
BigA. You've been here longer than I.

I've go a question, I won't tell you what it's about, or show you any pictures, but I need your expert opinion. What should I do? :p:D

But the fact all the mechanicals are an unknown might cancel the fact that the car was completely restored ten years ago as a selling point to certain buyers. "North American" car....now we are all curious.

Is it a find if somebody already knew it was there?

  11. I'll send 1$ US for it sight unseen, today, right now, even to a Walmart nearest you. Import fees taxes and all considered.

You know the answer to this. Not your first rodeo.

Unless you want an informed answer.

This is were it gets dicey. Wide range of N. American cars. Some way more desirable than others...

If you're gonna go fishin', at least put some bait on the line...

  16. You guys are cracking' me up. I needed that today.

My father surprised me when he said don't try to start it. Just thought I'd see if anyone was in the same camp.

Looks like we'll be pulling it out of the barn (no, really... it's in a 100+ year old barn, tractors and hay and everything :D. I didn't know it was there... someone did, someone always does... it's not King Tut's tomb... thus, barn find) on Monday or Tuesday.

It's a '48 Pontiac Sport Coupe. Straight 6, Canadian made. Nice car, ugly colour. Not really hot rod material.

Damn nice example right there. I'd still clean'r'up & start it though. To get top $, I'd detail it even.

What do you mean "Not hot rod material"? It's a coupe and has chrome garnish mouldings. All it needs is some horsepower and some wheels.

The term barn find, your right ,it's only to describe the occurrence when someone finds it in the depths of dim sunlight and webs of covered time,it's that ahhh cool euphoric feeling.....

Can't we just go back to 7 pages of the guy who can't get into his truck cuz the door is stuck. That made more sense then this does.

Looks good from here where a bone stock '48 chev coupe lasted over 6 months on Kijiji and priced at $7000 CERTIFIED. Your location should fetch more I would think.

  28. Also, that barn looks way cleaner than my house. My wife and kids are real slobs though.
