Thanks to chromedaddyo here on the HAMB, I have a pair of nice Fenton wheels for the front of my gasser project.

I was wondering what you guys are running for tires on this size wheel?

I stopped by the local tire store at lunch, and they thought maybe a 165-15 would be ok. Not sure if I want to run metric or not though.

Race or street? Same wheel......I did run 195/65-15.....they were ok. Upped to 205/65-15 for more footprint (control) at speed in the traps. Used a radial for supposedly reduced rolling resistance. I like being able to "feel" the steering and the pavement. If you are just wanting the "look" it's a personal preference. If racing, think about footprint/control/steering inputs, etc.

I always use 165r15 for racing. It's a VW tire.

I'll probably take it down the track once and a while, but mainly it is a street car, but I want it to be safe too.

    Thanks for the good info!

  5. What about those Moroso front runners? Do they still make them?

Ive run anywhere from a 145R15 to 165R15 on the street and the track. All are fine . Just depends on how a tall a tire you want on the car. Gasserman

I've run 165R-15 on 3.5" and 5" wheels for a couple of decades. Not recommended if autocross is in your future, but they work fine overall. For a light car, there are a few smaller sizes that work, but the 165 fits well, and is easily available almost anywhere.

By the way, if those are Fenton Gyros, I am extremely jealous. Can't believe I let mine get away......

What size do you have on the car in your avatar? Can you post a bigger picture, please. Looks like a good stance.

I just got a set of 5.60x15 ProTrac's from Coker and mounted them on a set of 15x4 Radirs. They sure look good, but it will be a while before I know how they drive.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, so here's a couple of grands worth.
Wheel on left has BF Goodrich 175 80 r15. The one on the right has a 165 r15 by Sentry. Both tyres have the same tread width, 5 1/2 ins, and the Goodrich is only one inch taller, but I think the Goodrich looks a lot better.

I'm running the 5.60 ProTracs mentioned earlier on a pair of 15x4 Cragars. No problems running them on the street. They look a lot better than radials and are nice and skinny so they won't look goofy with those pizza cutters. $110 a piece, 40 bucks less than Moroso's.

My question is.........Weight issues......will there be problems with a 165R-15 with my 460 / C6 planted over it.

  14. If your setup is heavy, check out the Mickey Thompson 8 ply DOT's... I run them on my OT 1998 Formula which is about 3400 raceweight.

Ditto for my Anglia, but that's with a lot of engine setback and very little weight on the nose... The look is killer, too.
