This car was variously identified as the Yates/Mikkelson or Yates/Neumeyer car, and was the first dragster to better Art Chrisman's 141 MPH speed at the drags -- went 144 at Saugus in about 1954. Never saw it again, after it set that speed.

Unbelievable what they stuffed into those little chassis...That was pretty darn quick for the times.

So why did it disappear. Point made see you later kind of thing?

Thanks 50 for the info on this Screaming Wedge.

Great stuff, Stogy! The car pictured with the number" square route of. 69" is Paul Fitzgerald , who was one of the original " Nomads" here in Massachusetts. He went to MIT so that was kind of a joke his fellow club members pulled on him. He became an engineer and was front office for Sikorsky. I believe that his car was found not that long ago and brought back to him after being sold many years ago. Lots of info on him in "Cool cars, Square roll bars" written by the Shuman brothers . (RIP).

  7. This odd rod came up on FB today
The poster says his dad and friend built it in the early60s
I like this thread. It helps prove that every old hot rod did not look like the Spencer 32 ( love that car ).

Cocktail of Artistic Ingenuity...thanks for sharing...;)

Hey I think that's @flynbrian48's other pair of vintage slots...:p

"Newspaper taxis appear on the shore
    Waiting to take you away
Climb in the back with your head in the clouds
    And you're gone"

    Timothy Leary inspired perhaps.

I was very young and I don't remember a heck of a lot of it either but I think I was there getting high on Gilligans Island, Rocketship 7 and Commander Tom

  14. I kinda like it and caint explain why
At first glance I thought it was a messed up RR build but when I read some crazy teens from the 60s built it the car became kinda cool

I visualize bowing out the door to fair out to the quarter maintaining the beltline carrying it back and it tapering similar to the wedge you and your student team are orchestrating. Just my vision. Hey you try to get into what was being put forth. It sure as heck isn't the most outlandish candidate this thread has seen.

Keep your eyes peeled. I always enjoy digging into the past. The sixties was a very wild time for outlandish mods...little page fueled with the other things going around.

The re-purpose of the grill/bumper guards as nerf bars is slick.

Love the varied mods on all these Jalopies and the wide array of different brands/makes tearing the dirt up...and a six banger
huge influences to the Hotrod evolution very apparent.
It was a great time for Hotrods
