Hot Rods Tired of homogenized hotrods

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by onekoolkat1950, Dec 24, 2015.

  1. The Dobie Gillis Show ( Thhe Many Loves of Dobbie Gillis). Late '50s Situation Comedy. Dobbie was the straight man, featured Maynard Krebs who was an off beat Beat Nic, he later became Gilligan on Gilligan's Island.

Don't know id this will count as a hot rod and its far from done but there won't be much homogenized about it when it rolls under is own power. 4B42F833-1A08-4335-9181-B75E810460F9.jpeg

It's not an Allard. It's much smaller. The picture was taken in late 40s/early 50s Germany. Looking through the grille of the front car, it looks like a Ford axle. I'm guessing its a Ford Eifel/Taunus special. The cars behind it are the Baron Special, Petermax Müller Special and the Petrix-VW. All three are VW-based (am I allowed to say the dreaded v-word?).

Back in the day did these make they're way around the racing circuits on North American soil?

The similarities sometimes are enough to make one think that similarities were more than coincidental.

  7. That's freaky. I thought the "death to America" print on the shirt was weird.

I didn't even read it. I just thought Bob Denver was better looking when he was young like the rest of us.

Cool! Not just blisters in the hood but the bubbled inner fenders are gone, looks very cool.

  14. Jim Pantalls car had a British Riley RME engine and trans IIRC. I spoke to him briefly at a show, many years ago and he was wisecracking about how slow it was.

  16. For everyone that was offended by my lack of knowledge of foreign dignitaries. Let me say this, I am all about politics and yes I purposely went out looking for something political to post.

The truth be known the character that Denver played in the show was politically polarizing. He was a beat nick, IE anti establishment. I did not choose the photo for that reason but believe what you want. If it makes you feel taller to think I am against Merica then I'm your huckleberry.

I am just a bit embarrassed that I knew it didn't look like Bob Denver but I didn't look closer. So much for eye witness accounts. Maynard G. Krebs never seemed like a very political character to me but then I went to college at the other end of College Avenue from Berkley in the '60s. Those guys took their politics seriously.

As far as I know, none of these ever came to America (but I wouldn't be surprised if a soldier managed to bring one home). The Peter-Max Müller car was found in Europe a few years ago & restored.

Don't need no stinkin cowl...Another interesting thing of note on this wild ride is the Tubbed wheel wells
which I have always thought was a more modern addition. Love the shimming of the front spring too.

Don't think so Verde. Click on the link and read the story. This fella Jeano owned the famed Bernardini Roadster, raced, modded and showed it from 1955 till at least 1961. Maybe thats his wife and her friend. I agree great shot and that is one awesome 32...one of my faves. This fellow Jeano was in the club the Pacers and was a flagman.
