Hot Rods Tired of homogenized hotrods

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by onekoolkat1950, Dec 24, 2015.

  1. You are correct. The roadster is now owned by Paul Gallant, Don's youngest son who took over running Don's speed shop. I met Don in 1958 when I was hitchhiking in my army uniform. He was driving a 1955 Chevrolet. He had the rev's up and clutch out before I was completely in the car.

When I started visiting the Hamb this was one of the Hotrods I took an instant liking to and it still resonates the same ambience it had then...

    The Art of @jordabennett

Capturing a Grand Moment in History...Nice Power to Weight...Streamlined, Flared Shotguns...

...the back ground almost dissolves into a banked curve at speed...

This is a Bigcar Racer Inspiration...I'm envisioning a canopy even fenders, maybe skirted in some other speed event aka Blackhawk...it all depends on the race...did some of these end up at Bonneville?...

I am being inspired by the imagery and profile your designing and pushing 1947 ahead...have fun on the beach...Pendine was just having its sand kicked...

  10. I only ever had 1 picture of my first roadster. It was powered by a 331" Cadillac engine. It had an early Oldsmobile rear end, and a La Salle transmission. I replaced the rear crossmember to get the rear of the body up to where I thought it looked right to me. I was in my late 20's when I had that roadster. I am now 81 years old, and have my second roadster that is shown in my avatar.

We hope that one pic surfaces...

Nick you live in a pretty darn influential region were some of the coolest Hotrod/Customs hailed from...the lack of cameras highlights how much we have missed over the years...listening to the stories helps paint what missed the aperture...

This Thread is peppered with greatness from your region...I do also know you spent a fair part of your time in the mecca for Hotrod many times as its referenced, California...

...Remembering Pat Ganahl to me is not from reading his many literary works because I'm not a book reader but more for his historical ties to the Culture and imagery as he so in his own way covered this Coupe throughout its several iterations. It would be hard to choose a favorite but it will forever remind me of him along with his coverage of many of the lesser notables but just as influential movers and shakers in the Culture over the years...

    Rip @pgan...

...Hamber @Hannahzhotrodz has something nasty from the past to revive...Oh!!! Happy Birthday...a great way to find content in the Hamb proper...

Hopefully it will retain much of its profile of the Yesteryear in its revival...It had a 427 bowtie back in the day but his choice of a Buick drivetrain with period detailing will be an interesting substitute that will certainly push it along just fine...

    I’m digging it.
But I’d add a front chrome steelie.
Canada was tagged in the pic, this belong to a Canuck? Aye?

Has now...Yes Chromes up front and side hood panels curving up to the Shell, Art Deco like...no hood or plexi hood this is Ratfink era stuff in a modern age where being there for so many is a twist on old in inspiration...

Flip Top maybe... hinged fwd at the windshield or back...the Anderegg Roadster had a similar confined situation...with one or no doors and a chopped top...

  20. I don't think that was @Royalshifter
Isn't that Casny's "Nash" that was mentioned in @Ryan's Hawaii post?

@Ryan shared this image...it highlights a few things that provoke conversations about what's right or wrong about how things are done in Hotrod...but this Illustrates it was done no matter right or wrong...awesome...;)

Wouldn't that have the enthusiasts just aghast...it looks to be a form of Inspiration over the real deal...many worldly classics could wear go fast and look good doing it...

I suppose it's hard to contemplate cutting up something worth millions as a stocker...the odd time it is...and then there's the virtual world...where everything can be reality...

^^^ Give that rocket ship a little more horsepower & could spin those tires to the rim in one burnout. Love the drip pan
