Looks like an anti-roll bar. I I think it would function like a catapult. Maybe it was for the Homecoming Queen to hold on to during the parade.

Whether this photo is of John Weld, remains to be seen as historic research provided no answers. But, at the Santa Ana Dragstrip, these cool, odd looking vehicles were in their home environment. It was just a few miles up a lonely two lane road through the Laguna Canyon or the bustling PCH Highway North to Newport Beach.

This 1946-48 Crosley body is one of the first “Targa” top models from the home made garage. It looks like it could have been driven from Laguna Beach to the Santa Ana Airport for the races. A beach Buggy, perhaps?

    Hello,
Are you sure about that Crosley photo? John Weld was a local Laguna Beach early racer and well known in the city for his local newspaper and articles.

   ...Ole Friends...

I am thinking of a change in look...perhaps old chrome guide style headlights without parking light on top...maybe a hood top and a cycle style front fender polished aluminum or matched to top...

I want to get into a #2 bulb these old Capone Era Lights are bad at night...I feel this Hotrod is also representative of a 63/4 period and King Bees, Guides, or equivalent were very in back when I was 3...4...

@ratrodrodder, thanks for the appreciation...your digging into the archives of a most interesting thread...

I enjoy revisiting posts liked such as you are doing...it reminds me of past greatness that truly never gets old...I many times revisit the past posts to connect dots missed first time around...and yes it's a Big Thread...

I will also extend thanks to All enjoying, and contributing to this collection of greatness...;)

Hotrodders...They are one of a kind...I mean hurtling down the track between 130 and 200mph in such confined spaces...not just anyone could do that...I get claustrophobic just looking at it...I was looking at a pic of Stu Hilborn getting into that modified at the Dry Lakes...Crazy Tight...

I'm sure this is the guy that created the Normac Special (Nor = Norsewood, Mac = McCutcheon). This Wayne Chevy powered car has been restored by it's current owner.

...What's in a word...being an Artist of sorts I really enjoy the evolving graphics in the Big Picture and it's very obvious it was a personal reflection much like the Hotrods themselves which I believe are also a Personal Artistic statement...this Acey Deucey was pinned together nicely and the graphics were laid down with precision right down to the Louver detailing...Acme provokes thoughts of Wyle E...ready to give the Roadrunners a run for their lives...:D...and yes that was a Car Club running the Lakes at the time...

...a mirror away from Excellence...a bit of a Hybrid but one peek at the center rear front fender might let you know the race might be over quickly...as you might be surprised what's under the hood...

@GEBHARD both these were odd rods with incredible fit and finish...the T sported fat cycle fenders at some point albeit very few pics exist...I don't think the magazine you shared shows it fendered within...

Thanks always for sharing...the Vintage Unusuals...;)
