Probably 39 Chev suspension...I believe they had Coil Sprung Knee Action(Master Deluxe) and Parallel Sprung Beam (Master 85) in 39...with this Coupe being the Knee, I think......he did a Very Admirable Job regardless...

...I thought it might have sported this kind of setup when not Single Slicked...We must remember Hotrodding/Racing was always innovative and experimental in getting that winning edge...

I can almost make myself think I see old independent suspension. 20200629_124040.jpg

The dual wheels were used quite a bit pre-slicks. Some dragsters used dual semi truck wheels.

Six Ball, Chev had Coil Sprung Independent with Kingpin Spindles including a Stabilizer Bar...

If I'm not mistaken AK Miller had it in that Deuce that gave him a free pass out the Clubhouse door I understand...How's that for Traditional...

looking at this photo of the 39 Chevy and the photo on the previous page, I’m not convinced it’s the “knee-action” suspension. The first picture posted is more from the front angle and it just doesn’t look like there’s enough there to be the knee action with coil springs. It looks as though the frame may have been pinched and the leaf springs modified. That would be quite a task on the top hat style frame but it appears to be a well finished car so I wouldn’t be surprised. I’ll post some pics of an original 39 Chevy beam axle front end and maybe that will help decipher it. I love that coupe, sure wish there was more info on it.

I created a separate thread on this car to hopefully gain more info and not clutter this thread

Thank you Shadow, I had a Master Deluxe Sedan...You have the 85 and I side with your views on it, hence my unsure face when I suggested it was the other...I remember seeing more info on it. I think it saw magazine...Love those 39s...

  10. I zoomed in to check out the roadster and thought, "What? The front wheel looks like a mag," because the picture looks earlier, like the 50s. Then I noticed the 60s Chevy truck. And what's the one behind #88?

We need more pictures of the car. I think the car behind is one or these. Which for me fits perfectly with the chrome reversed wheels on the Chevy.

You don't put horns like that on a car unless you plan to use them.
The link above the the Half Moon Bay pictures is great. I spent time there in the 60s. Is it an ongoing posting of this pictures? I might see some more cars I knew there.

I was searching for that 39 Drag Coupe. Nick said he seen it back in 57/8 at Half Moon and I found that site...really enjoy the varied entries...it never gets old...

My '39 Chev coupe is a Master Deluxe, and whatever is hanging out the side of the nose on the white coupe is not the knee action valve body! It's way too big to be the casting Chevy used. Not sure what it is, but I see a link for a swaybar, or some front suspension link outside the body there.
Frame doesn't need much pinching at the front there. The grille is about 17" wide, and frame rails are about 21", so a couple inches per side would tuck it in. I swapped mine back to a I beam axle, but used a '58 Chev truck axle to make it easier to convert to disc brakes. Just narrowed the '58 axle 5" to make it fit the frame rails and fenders.
I'm building my '39 to look like the '40 Chev coupe I had in high school in 1968.

...Your a lucky man...Love those coupes...Yes I believe it's Leaf Sprung Beam Axle as Shadow mentioned. I thought it looked like lever shocks but they had tube. He started a Thread on that Coupe so hopefully we can get a little more details on all the goodies. Pretty elusive Hotrod as many are I find...

    Here's the Thread Shadow Started...

The one above this looks like it's could be from the NRA Hot Rod tour when they were organizing drag racing and sitting up their monopoly. I remember going to a meeting with my brother's club when they came to Amarillo.

It does look like a huge poster in front of the roadster on the left in the flesh...I love the group shots especially when the candidates are diversified as these are...
