What would be good tire size for 16 x 6" rims for the 40 Chrysler in my avatar which came with 16" rims, but were too narrow IMO. WheelSmith rims were welded to the Chrysler centers so that the caps would still fit.
The front & rear of the car have been replaced/modified, but are very close to original width dim. However, the tires can't be especially wide.
I've located some used 235/70/16 tires on local CL
    Any thoughts/suggestions ?
    TIA

Stock 40 Chrysler tire is a 6.25-16 That should be 28 and something tall and a 235-70 16 should be 28.95 That's most likey going to be a truck tire that is six ply rated rather than a car tire though.
If I was going with new tires I'd probably be looking for 215 85 16 tires. A comparison here. Screenshot (476).png

    Would 215 65 16 P4 Pirelli's work ?

According to the Tire Size Chart, looks like they would be 27" tall.
The rear end has been replaced by a newer MOPAR rear-end and the front end has been modified extensively; nowhere near stock.
The only thing that really concerns me is the width of the tire in the fender space.
