A little more progress. Body is back on the frame and awaiting glass, top wood and insert. I can't say enough about the guys at Jason Graham hotrods. This thing has turned out exactly how I envisioned it too...

    Very very nice!

Question: I've looked at a lot of chopped coupe builds and it seems they never really mention about the wood in these A's: Do stock pieces get modified? Do builders make their own? Is the wood replaced with steel (how does one attach the garnish, headliners etc).

Or does it tend to be a little bit of each approach...?

    What did you do? Pics?

It's builds like these that are such an inspiration, there can never be too many "A" builds!

I love shooter54's A too! The aprons on his are cool, I hadn't seen his approach before. So many variations on "A" theme.

..I just found out my 46 59A is toast (valley cracks)... so this article was needed to offset my downer of a day!

    Thanks guys!
I seen a few variations on the original wood and such. I have seen the original garnish moldings, wood etc chopped and modified to fit.
I'm just using the top wood for looks(mainly the inside) with a fabric covered insert that Jason Graham has made. it will have no headliner and minimal upholstery

  10. Just read through this build thread. Wow, what great inspiration for our 29 that we've been lugging around with us for the past 25 years. Someday I hope it looks half as nice as this.
Thanks for taking the time to document your build!

Dude... you nailed it. I especially like the stance, channeled and not too low, just right.
You built on version of my "dream car" haha And it sounds great too :D

  16. Grits here, a couple of things,
    1) put some turnouts on those pipes or you paint will burn off the doors in less than 100 miles.
    2) I didn't notice any body braces on the interior or the cab, without a roof and bracing your coupe is going to rack and crack at the b pillars in less than a year, one thing that will help is put the wood around the side windows and run the braces at an angle to the floor just behind the doors, this will help brace the cab.
Ask me how I know ;)

  17. PS. That coupe looks BEAUTIFUL:)

    Thanks Grits...
The pipes are a little further away from the body than they look....

The car does have some minor metal bracing at the b pillar and a very rigid subframe It will have the wood put back in the top with a covered metal insert.

Dayem!!!! Very shweet. You have inspired a whole bunch of us A freaks, me included. The only advantage my coupe will have over yours is that mine will be crummy enough not to worry about much. I'd be afraid to beat on one as nice as yours.

Don't hurt yourself grinnin' when you drive it! :D

I don't have it home to drive it yet:) It's still at Jason's shop. He's waiting on the glass to get there. Once its installed it'll be ready for me to pick up. I got a few things to finish up once I get it back an it should be ready to roll....

Nick - curious to know how you did your roof. It doesn't look like the stock vinyl piece. Nice project btw.

The top is a metal skin covered with foam and a landau material. It bolts in place. The top wood is basically in there for looks. Jason Graham at Jason graham hotrods done the top, he makes them in house. It looks great!

I finally have it back home, the thing looks great. I have a few little odds and ends to finish up and it should be ready for the road. Not running yet, I think I fried the module in the unilite distributor, so I'm waiting on a new module to come in. Here's a couple pics back home in the garage:
