Does the direction of the bevel on a throttle plate matter... or is there a top and bottom to a throttle plate as used on a primary carb. each side should have an opposite bevel (as related to the bevel 180 deg across), so install orientation should be moot, right? Having troubles visualizing in 3D today...
throttle plate is not 180 in closed position...look at it..always at small angle against the bore..install it according to the way it opens the side of plate that opens up towards the top of carb bevel should be on underside
http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=225266 this should help, it shows how to make and install them correctly.
There is an up and down, the blade angles as you know and the blades are offset to the bore so that air tends to naturally close them as opposed to airflow opening them. Generally if you can read the blade info from under the carb you are ok ie on a 750 holly you should read the #172 on the primary blades.
thanks for the replys guys. you gave me the nudge I needed to see the proper orientation. my 94 bases are all buttoned up, ready for the rest of the carb rebuild this week
