I'd like to see more pictures of this as it goes together. It reminds me of the Miller race cars. I'd like to hear how the quad quarters locate the axles.

The above post was not there when I started. Anyway Miller did something like this and I'd like to better understand it.

Some of those shown are Chrysler tube axles, the end yokes and spindles are very different than Franklin.

This will be my front axle when I get it off the trailer and remove all the stuff that won't let it steer. It's a '30s MOPAR. It will have Chevy pickup spindles and brakes.

seemed like shame to pull off the nice hydraulic brakes off my 30s mopar tube . they look the same as modern drum set ups.....but that's the problem. I too am going to adapt chev brakes to my mopar spindles tho.

I want to use 6 lug Chevy 19" wire wheels on the front and they fit '49 pickup drums perfectly. How we complicate things just to get "that look".

Man this is a neat thread! I had never heard the term " three springer " before. I figured it had something to do with rear suspension when i first saw the thread title. I'm building a speedster out of a 1920's Dodge frame that uses 5 rear springs.

"and now for something completely different........"

That's a crazy setup. Are you going to retain the 5 springs for you build?

Yes. I'm keeping the 5 springs. I'm already a good ways into the build now.

I'm glad you are saving that. It is really cool looking. I've never seen anything like it. Show us more.

    Hey Droplord49!
Hope I'm not off post here, annoying people, but a couple of years ago you mentioned 51 Chevy pickup axles/springs/brakes/steering for a '32 frame. Would this fit a '27 chassis as well?
I'm Down Under and we don't have second hand Chev in abbundance..
I'm building a four spring fenderless - gasp - Toyota 3TC powered speedster styled machine and I'm desperate for front solid axle upgrade info on the '27 frame.
    Any help would be gold!!
    Cheers

P.S This thread rocks! That 5 spring rear end looks awesome.. and stock?

  15. Oaf, if you are asking if they fit the earlier Chevrolet chassis, then yes, they should (you may have to adjust the spring perch holes a smidgen).

It looks like it. Can you imagine how far he could roll that thing over and still have tread on the ground? I also like the safety feature of not holding your smoke in the same hand you pump fuel with. The battery bumper is a nice touch. There'd be no room for it on a Ford transverse spring front end.

This picture was in one of Don Montgomery's hot rod books, thanks for posting. Wonder what happened to the driver, no roll bar, probably no seat belts, probably didn't turn out well.

I really like those bone-hard lake types builds!

No front Brakes, No damperd, no BS or no excess!
This is such a cool thread!

    Show more, tell all!

I'm building a 4 springer speedster for the road. But if I can't make it street legal, I cut it out and make a three springer out of it!

Real hot rods are black,a few are shiny, none are finished!
So now Clark goes and builds a white one that messes up my whole theory.o_O

And all had three pedals, at some point in time.
    But times change.
There are very few who gets away with re-thinking traditional, but that one little White one, is surely an exception to the rule!
