Three Carburetors

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by mctim64, Dec 26, 2013.

  1. Music and Hot Rods have always gone together. When I was ten years old I went on a scavenger hunt at a friends birthday party, one of the items to find was a 45 rpm record. At a certain house in the neighborhood I was given a record with "Smoke Smoke Smoke that Cigarette" on it. We all know that one but on the flip side was a song called "Three Carburetors". I took this disc home and played it over and over. Lyrics like:

    "I've got three carburetors
    twin pipes
    I've got three carburetors
    milled heads
I've got three carburetors and nooooobody passes me"

My mom threw the record away because she was against smoking and didn't like the feature title. I have always remembered that "B side" song even some forty years later but have never found another copy. There was a number of artists that covered "Smoke that Cigarette" but I have no idea who sings "Three Carburetors". I must say the words were a mystery to me at ten but they made me want to figure out the deep meaning of this song. it lead me on the search that has brought me to where I am today.

Does anyone out there remember this song? Anyone have a copy? Just can't seem to find it anywhere.

Jeez Tim...I had forgotten all about that tune. About the same time as "A black leather jacket with an eagle on the back".

Too cool! I heard the original version of the A side by Tex Williams about 30 yrs ago, and thought it was one of the coolest western swing sides I'd ever heard. 6 degrees of separation on the HAMB!

Shaun young on his wiggle walk album sings this one. Though it may have been done earlier as a cover his version is pretty neat.
