For street and strip use. Pictured are two Exceptional A/FX cars both with AWB however coil A arm suspension. What are your thoughts of foregoing a Straight Axle install and retaining the factory coil A arm suspension however with AWB on a 1964 Comet? Please input. Thank you again.
Phil's '65 Falcon used a "Twisted Leaf" front suspension. This was the same deal as the '65 AFX Mustangs. It was built by Holman Moody.
No problem how its built as long as its not "all show and no go." Too many FX and Gasser styled cars out there that are just posers. Scotto Yes. Some of them had aluminum fenders.
Anything can be done with enough welding......but to get anything beyond a small block you have to mod the towers and control arms. This is from an AFX Comet. Personally I think the straight axle is much easier. Just completely remove the towers and weld in filler panels.....then drop a FE in!
I think it would be acceptable, the Comet doesn't have a lot of room to move the front end forward anyway do they?
Removing a shock tower is alot of work. The drivers side tower is going to have to be replaced on my old 64 Cyclone drag car (it had been butchered for header clearance). Here's a pic after all of the spot welds have been cut and the tower removed. I just don't see moving the stock suspension forward to be worth the effort....unless you just have a bunch of time to kill. Then you have to start mod'ing the stg!
i've been trying to pull that off with my ranchero, but having serious alignment issues. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=395110
If I may ask: How would the "Z Bar" for the 4 speed be configured when installing the FE engine in the 1964/65 Comet and Falcons?
I'm building my blown '65 AWB Tempest with stock a arm susp to compliment my AA/FD and have a 2 car team ( as money allows). It will see some street use. Nothing wrong with using stock, or nearly stock, front suspension and many of the AWB cars of the day also used them. AWB cars are just plain bitchin'! my .02 Steve Hosting 8th annual Nostalgic Show & Go! Sunday, March 28, 2010 Phoenix Make plans to attend. www.nostalgicshowandgo.org
iam going to try my hand at an 63 dodge 330 awb car i have had no luck at locating a straight axle so i purchased so 50" torsion bars and i am just gonna move the k member forward on some new frame rails
Here is an engine shot of the Harrell/Thomas Nova... my personal favorite. The moved the z11 rearward almost a foot. Sent from my SM-G920V using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
