    1928 repair prices on a Model T.
Talks about getting 4 or 5 years out of a car.

Wow at 1.00 and 2.00 for labor, I bet service writer's mopped up on commission. Lol. What did a new Model A cost out of curiosity? They were just a few hundred bucks weren't they? Average person made, what, about a grand a year?

My uncle sent it to me in an email
Not sure where he got it but it is a cool advertisement for parts and labor.
Since it was in a letter maybe someone wrote to the dealer about fixing his model T up.

  7. not only was it cheap to fix your model t it was cheap to mail a letter, check out the penny stamp! cool!

That's a neat piece of memorabilia.

..........And the mechanic only got about 5% of that labor charge. Flat rate, he made about $2 a day. Worked his ass off and then went home to a bitchin' wife asking him when he was going to get a better job!

now just think, the 60,000 mile tuneup on a 2001 Camery cost about $1000.
I have no idea what a front fender cost for a camery, but the siginal bulb cost more than a front fender replacement on a T back then.

Someone needs to crunch the numbers for inflation and see how that works out in todays money.

No matter what the prices owning a car has always represented a MAJOR drain on resourses. I remember gas at $0.19/gal and having to pool all of our change to cruise around on Fri./Sat. night.

  12. yes, as a percentage of income i believe it may be cheaper to operate a car now.

$12.99 for a gallon of Prestone antifreeze yesterday , in this 1937 ad it was $2.95....that had to be a lot of money then
