My wife does genealogy like we do old cars on this forum--nonstop. She came across this small little article/editorial and showed it to me. It's from the Lafayette, Indiana Journal and Courier, August 9, 1930. I just thought it was nice slice of life about those loud exhausts from the early days of hot rodding ( and trucking as mentioned in the article. )
Dang Hoodlums......it's gotten a lot quieter since then hasn't it......mind you now there's car stereos so loud you can't hear your Ole Hotrod running even if it is loud...it's crazy out there.
Damn, some people hated us truckers back then, too. We're still treated like the scum of the earth! That clipping must have been written by a lawyer. Too many big words for the average citizen........they would have just said "Those trucks and hot rods are too loud, somebody needs to quieten them down".
maybe truck cut-out was a semi Jake Brake being used - Lafayette have a lot of hills?- 1930 4 cyl may have had muffler removed rather than what we know as a cut-out
