I remember the Chevado cruising around Arcadia and Monrovia, Calif.
That thing was spotless. Gary Kleckner owned/owns it. His brother, "Doc" ran Bobs Beef Burger on Huntington Dr. in Arcadia in the late 60's-70's, saw it there once. Another time saw it rumbling down the street and the passenger was wearing a fuel-style face mask.
Hard to believe, but he really drove that thing on the street.
Bitchin looking and bumper-dragging wheelstands, too. On the street!

I have a story that I'd like to share about the Chevado. My late father, Dave "Pinky" Dudgeon told me that he saw this car (before it became Chevado) for sale in the used car lot right next to Bob's Beef Burger. He wanted to buy it very badly but couldn't talk my grandpa into loaning him the money. My Dad and I used to go to Bob's Beef Burger regularly, both my parents were friends with Doc Kleckner. There was a big guy that worked there named "Tiny" every time we came in he would mistakenly call my dad "Steve" and my dad would just pretend his name was Steve. Great memories...I sure miss him.

    Found this on Bangshift..

Chevado: A Chevy Nomad with a rear mounted Algon-injected 455ci Olds motor, straight front axle and license plates. This mother was street legal.

Where is it now? Unless it was wrecked, I have to believe that it still exists in some form or another.

What good would they do if he couldn't steer the car?

  16. A few years back, when the current owner posted here, it was out West. Idaho or somewhere that direction?

I always dug the Chevado, Revell should have made a 1/25 model kit of it. Speaking of high '55 Chevys, does anyone know if this '55 street and show car survived the '70s? Built and owned by Richard Trice.

Yes, and some lost interview revealed that they were going to resurrect it. It would be neat to just roll it outside and snap a bunch of fresh pictures. And then check out the photo album or two. Make a great story for Mr. 'Gonzo' to cover.....

He would steer it with the turning brakes - it had two levers next to the console (pic posted in this thread) Left lever connnected to left rear brake and right to right.

  24. Must have been another similar one that was posted here then. I even sent him a note trying to book it for teh local track in about 02 or 03. This car I am thinking of is a current exhibition car.

    Tman,
Same deal here. There was a REAL similar car that was booked into our "local" track (Lawton, Oklahoma) back in the 80's. I thought it was red and BBC powered, but it's all kind of fuzzy.

  27. Larry, I even found an older thread here where I mentioned the car was in the PNW. I could not find the guys original thread nor do I remember why he got pissed and left. Pretty sure it was the Chevado tho, like I said I was looking into getting him booked if I could back here when the thread went away in a shitstorm.
