O.K. I'll admit to being an idiot. The thing that got me was the fact that the whole grille was welded to the fenders. I can see now that they probably torched it out to remove the engine, then welded it back in. They did a pretty good job though. There's no idiot like a blind idiot.
Can I give you advice: Please do not EVER offer to help a buddy of yours that buys a KB, and wants you to remove the front fenders or anything near that dam grille....he,he. I have never ever seen such a nightmare of the way the grille trim is long strips tying everything together, and tiny rusted nuts...DOZENs of them, all rusted up and inner trim clips just spinning, and not able to get it apart.. I'd bet the guy did one before....and said "no way I'm going through that again"...and cut it. .
I've had a horrible flashback on when I got stuck with working on a guys 48 KB job. The REAL reason is that it's even tougher than just rusted nuts! I figured out that you cannot even get to some of the nuts at all! The factory assembled the fenders/header and grille trim off the truck and THEN slid the nose on! This guy comes to mind, to properly describe how smart IH was: And...after you get the grill back together, and try to get the column shifted Selector-Type trans into first or 2nd...the shift just won't go. So you go look how it works: One main lever on column bottom to move all 4 gear positions, but a stupid cable idea, running from slopped -out column, over to the top of the former older trans tower, and the IH "farmer design team" just sawed the old shift lever off, and uses the cable to move the gate right to left.. good grief.... .
The complete stainless bar set for that grill is usually worth more than the whole truck. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
