    1st blow.
I realize it's traditional. But the 33-34 grille is the most beautiful grille made by Ford.
It's almost like seeing a beautiful woman with perfect features and wearing a clown nose.

  5. As you can see by the pics above, the vast majority of the time the '32 grill is used since it's fairly easy to section compared to the 33-34 grill and the fact that most of the cars in the pics are channeled or sectioned. I studied this while building my cabrio and a channeled '34 roadster I had years ago. Tim

Agreed, it would be like placing a Model A shell on a 32. The back dating just doesn't work. As phenomenal as the Deuce shell looks on its own, it looks dated and awkward against the swoopy lines of the 33/34 body. The Deuce shell looks best on Rods 32 and older-it "works" on A's and T's really well.

Tim is spot on in that most all the cars pictured are heavily channeled/lowered fenderless cars that wouldn't accommodate the 'chin' of a 34 shell which probably necessitated the use of a 32 shell. Function over form.

I prefer the 32 grille on the 33/34 and I am looking forward to more pictures on this post. I do not like the 33/34 grille on a fenderless car. So my perfect hot rod may be different from the normal perception but it is my opinion has been formed by many years of looking at these cars. I like the 33/34 3 window body, the 32 tank, a combination of the back half of a 33/34 hood and the front half of a 32 hood, and a 32 grille and shell. In my opinion a 2 inch channel and a 3 inch chop. I would be called a late 32 or an early 33. Just my thoughts. Someday I want to build this car but there are other projects ahead of it now.

Funny thing is the car that inspired me to build something like this was one that I saw about 1965. It was an older build when I saw it then and it is a 5 window. That car was stored in a barn here in southwest Missouri until about 15 years ago when it was moved to the Saint Louis, Missouri area and I lost track of the hot rod of my dreams. To my knowledge it is still owned by the person who was driving it when I first saw it cruising the square and racing on Sundays.

One mans trash is another mans treasure.

There was a thread on here about '35 ford grill on 34's. The one pictured was a channeled 33-34 roadster with a '35 grills and it looked good. Can't find the pic or thread. Found it... 1EBF1485-C66B-44FA-BC79-FA3D549CA570_zpsw32tdrrq.jpg

  12. Two more pix. It's not the most esthetic car I've ever seen, but it does have a Rat Fink monster t-shirt vibe that I *really* like.

The black 3W above really looks good with that grille, is that a '33 pickup grille? Looks deeper than a '32. I also really like the red roadster with the '35 grille.

I'm piecing together a '33 coupe body right now, and I think if it ever made it to fully-functional car, an alternative grille would most likely be used, just for the cost alone.

  21. It's pretty hard to section a 33-34 grill.
Get the model 40 low and channeled then get the grill in line with the cowl and it chin sits 2" below the pavement.

Picture is worth 1000 words. Look at the lines then Check the grill to ground clearance.
These are the same car in mock up and finished.

I better shot of my coupe -- channeled 6" at the cowl and a 6.5" grill shell cut.

IMO the Deuce shell can work on a few other cars. The '34 is not one of them.

Might I suggest a 33/34 truck grille? Looks like a 32, but leans back like a 33/34. It might work for you. Here's one on my truck. Gary

Streamlined '33s & '34s, Deuce shelled; only to end up looking like they were slammed into a 'smooch fest'.

Likewise for the 'A' shells that get mustered out to '22-'27 T's!
Even Waylon said: "Bet that Edsel never had it this way..."

  26. How about a 37 Ford truck grille ?

This same car was on some TV show or something and
had flamed fenders, full hood with sides
and looked spot on as well...nice garage too.
