E1415444-5825-4E58-9EE3-89FC7E6BEAA5.jpeg I’ll admit I could have googled this but I’m short on time and the HAMB is fairly quick. I’d like to take ride out on Christmas and blow the stink off. This one is straight and I’ve had nothing but trouble with it leaking. It’s a stock mopar unit on my 392. I know they make a cheap stamped steel unit and a billit aluminum one. My question is threw Napa or others is there a part number that would direct accordingly to a better unit. I know the neck is around 1 3/4 If I have to open mounting holes no biggie.

If you are in a hurry take it off and check it for flatness. If warped dress it with some sandpaper on a nice, flat surface. Naturally add a new gasket and maybe a touch of sealer too.

Already done that. No clue why. I’ve taken it off and done everything possible. Weird shit. Simple stuff.

According to rock auto the gasket for the thermostat housing also fits a number of various rigs /Felpro 35063 That may give you some non mopar options for a housing that is cast iron.

Scrolling down to the "compatibility" link on O'Reilly's site for a 392 hemi thermostat shows that thermostat fits a lot of different year Mopars. Up to late 70's at least. https://www.oreillyauto.com/detail/.../1958/chrysler/new-yorker?q=Thermostats&pos=1

You should be able to use a cast thermostat housing that was made for some 70's big block Mopars . You would have to check the hose diameter of the later ones first though. .

    392,
I had the very same problem. I tried the OEM stamped steel, an aftermarket aluminum one and still leaked. Finally purchased one from "Performance Stainless Steel" and used studs instead of bolts and haven't had a drop of antifreeze leaking for nine months. It sure can be a pita. Hope you can get it worked out soon.

Thanks guys. I’ll try Napa first thing this am. And I’m going to switch to studs.

Are you sure the bolts aren't bottoming out?

Looks like a thin paper gasket and blue rtv in the first picture.
I would use (make) a thicker cork gasket and Permatex 2

9AFDB27E-2B9F-49F6-8764-428E429079CC.jpeg I visited Napa and 3 more others with no luck. Then called a street rod supply and they had 2 variations of them. 1 a heavy cast and another a billit aluminum. I bought the heavy cast unit for $13, opened up mounting holes and had a few arp studs laying around. Used what sealer I had and installed. Topped off and took a ride. So far no drippers. I’m not into the bling so might try scuffing and painting it black.
