If he's gone over to the other side and she says he's "sick" you probably won't get it until she's gone too.
That car is a memorial of him for her.

Take her some flowers in a couple weeks. Tell her you would sure like to finish her husband's car. It sounds like she is stuck in some groundhogs day mental state?

Oh man, I've been there! Sounds like you have someone with either psychological, or even neurological problems.
I once asked an old woman about a Chevelle I saw hanging half way out of her Garage. She told me it was her son's and he was fighting in the war......(This was 1999) So, I asked her neighbor, and it turned out her son had died in 'Nam decades before, and it had messed her up emotionally (Understandably) and now she was going senile.
-Goes without saying, I didn't get the car.

    Anyway,
Maybe you could find one of her kids, or family members and try to get in that way... Good luck, chief. That is one damn fine coupe.

I found an extremely well hidden 1954 356 Porsche in a SoCal carport 1982. Met the owner and he was gonna build it 'someday'...At least once a year (sometimes more!) I'd make a point of stopping by and checking in on the Porsche and the owner....every year until 2006 (I moved out of state) He's still gonna get to it...with his walker and O2 tank...must be in his late 80's. I kept this car a personal secret and passed it to a close friend when I moved. Recent report...they are both still there!
Oh, next to the carport was a 36 Chevy P-up, 56 Chevy coupe and a 38 chevy 4dr.! All painted white with red and blue racing stripes.....up until 2003. The city made him junk'em cause they were an eyesore...!
    Maybe someday..........
    Aloha

YEH--- I`m not one to use spell check !!
Not sure about the neighborhood ? did not look that bad ??
There is a lot of good old steel in that city !!, the neighbor who I spoke with had a 22 parade car ( TUB ) in his garage,, all restored.
when I mentioned I would like to rod the coupe in his neighbors yard, he said its too nice for that ???
    I noticed a couple of 57 ford`s & chev`s behind some gates
I noticed at least 5 business using old cars out front as company bill boards, pretty cool !!!

Several years ago my brother-in-law found a group of old cars, checked to see who was paying taxes on the property and set a registered certified letter offering to buy them. He recieved notification that the letter had been delivered but not another word until he got a phone call from the executor of the estate inquiring if he was still interested. (he was). Perhaps if she doesn't want to sell now ask for her mailing address and make contact by mail every so often. Good Luck Mike.

exactly, except it is worth a little more now cause somone new asked about it!!

  28. Drop in with some cash and explain how you would love to buy the car but only if she agrees that after you have it running, she will take a cruise around town in the old car. Heck let her drive if it looks like she is up to it!! This will probably appeal to her senses of how much her husband would love knowing that the old car was now running and that she took it out on its maiden voyage! I bought a 63 Chevy II buy promising this and it worked : ) Good Luck!

Its like not having any legs and not willing to give (or sell at a fair market value) your old shoes to a bunch of poor needy children.
