Most sincere condolences to his family and friends. Danny, thanks so much for keeping us informed. I know this hurts Big Guy, and hopefully one day we'll meet and drink a cold one to Gene, and all our friends.

For those who may not know, Gene Cromer passed away last night. Heaven is brighter today. I have known many people in my life, some good, some bad, but very few great ones; Gene Cromer was a truly great one. His services are going to be at Sullivan King Mortuary
Thursday July 15 6:00-8:00
Friday July 16 1:00-2:00 visitation again for those who can't make Thursday.
Friday July 16 2:00 service at Sullivan King with graveside services following at New Prospect Baptist Church

Over the years I was fortunate to photograph Gene and the 'Moonlighter'. I even got a few shots of Gene in his natural element...at the drags. This photo is one of my favorites. Gene was a fine gentleman.

So sorry to hear about your friend @HOTRODPRIMER. Seems like there have been way too many posts like this lately on the HAMB.
My deepest condolences to Mr. Cromer and all his family and dear friends. He will be missed by many I'm sure.

Damn it man , this has to stop . This is veteran to our hobby . RIP in peace by Brother . My deepest prayers sent to the friends and family of Gene . He was truly a legend in our hobby . He did his way to the end .

 

I was so busy today Danny, I didn't see this till just now.
I'm sorry, my friend.
I must admit that I'm fairly ignorant about who's who in the hot rodding and racing world. But it was just recently that I watched the YouTube video about the story of Gene and his 1941 Willys gasser.
I didn't realize you and he were such friends.
There's not a lot that can be said that really helps when we lose someone close to us. A loving touch can help. And appreciating the special times that were shared.
So with my hand on your shoulder, much love to you, Danny. And be proud and happy that you had such a special friend in Gene Cromer.
Still... I know it hurts.

I’m sorry I never got a chance to meet Gene, and sorry to hear that they couldn’t pull him through this.

I’m also happy that he was able to come out of retirement to make some passes and relive the glory days.

Apparently the good Lord needed another top notch drag racer and all around good person. And there is no red light on the Christmas Tree in heaven. R.I.P. Gene.

Being a west coaster I had never heard of Gene until I saw the resurrection of his Willys here on the HAMB. I wish some folks here would post an " In Memoriam" gallery of photos from the old days and after the restoration of his car so that we could see Gene as you all saw him.
