In light of the Deuce theft in Florida , I'm sure a lot of HAMBers are wondering how safe their own ride is ....or isn't . You've got a lot of time and effort tied up in your pride and joy(s) ....so what can you do to safeguard it ?
There is a common belief that if the perps want it bad enough , they can steal it . But how about making it as difficult as possible ? Most of these losers are NOT seasoned pros I would think . So let's have some ideas !!

Your ride is probably in the garage ......so
    1. Motion Lights ...for starts.
    2.Cameras inside and outside
3.Lock the doors from both sides ??
4 HUNGRY DOG ;)...likes nuts but hopefully not yours
    5. Mechanized gun turret

etc. etc. You show off your ride so it's not a secret !

there are tooooooooons of threads about this. maybe do a search?

In the florida case if the shit head will rip a wall off your garage to get to the car you may as well make it easier to steal and save yourself a wall :p

    1. sleep in the garage with weapons locked and loaded.
    2. never leave.

  6. Stop being so stuck up and get to know your neighbors!!! I have a really great old couple that lives on the driveway side of my house and they're home 90% of the time and have a great view of my driveway and detatched garage. I've come back from travel (and having them babysit my animals) and they'll tell me that "There was a gold Chevy or GMC pickup that pulled into your driveway Thursday night at about 7 PM..." It's GREAT!!! I know at least all of the neighbors down the street in both directions for at least 3 houses on either side, and I'll phone them or they'll phone me if something doesn't seem quite right. Maybe a little on the "nosy" side, but that's fine with me!

A buddy of mine recently had his house robbed in broad daylight, and he lives in a pretty nice part of town. A few of the neighbors came over DAYS later and said "I saw a truck in your driveway and 2 guys carrying things out. We thought that you were moving out or something." Of course they DIDN'T get a description of the guys, a license plate number, a photo of the truck just in case... Nice. Just think if they would have KNOWN his vehicles, or that he wasn't moving, or if they'd have taken a few cheap digital photos "just in case".

There are tooooooooons of threads saying "do a search". What's your beef??

Are there really enough 'never been discussed' subjects to keep this website going???

    Just asking. Twobit

when shooting twice is just silly

seriously though, chances are you wont be around to get the pleasure of drawing a bead on your cars theif...slow them down, make it difficult

some of my finished cars dont run (purposely) some of them have all 4 wheels removed and are up on jack stands..than theres the dogs, cameras, alarms, locks and than me , plus all my neighbors know my cars, and if im not behind the wheel or they see shit going on at my place there will be phone calls..heck my one neighbor will probably come over to ask just what the fuck they are doing with my shit (were tight like that)

Mine are in a garage with an alarm, and the vehicles also have alarms. They also have battery cutoff switches, but alarms are ahead of them. Not sure what else I can do to stop thieves.

What was that one suggestion a while back about buying a cheap cell phone, putting a car charger hooked up to it, and hiding it somewhere in the car? I think the idea was that you could put it on silent and if the car is stolen you can dial that number and activate some gps function.

I would like to learn more about it, like what kind of phone you need, what you do to set it up, etc.

If a good thief wants your car he will get it, all you can do is make it inconvenient as possible so the occasional thief decides to move to some easier prey.

  11. my neighbor has to park his car in the driveway.
he pulls the front of the car right up to the wall and then he dug a post hole in the driveway behind the car into which is inserted a 4" square steel tube which is locked in place.

another guy i know has a set of 4' high wrought iron gates behind his garage door which are also secured to each other and into the ground so even if you get the door open, (locked inside and out), you get to wrestle with the gates.

    never too safe i guess.

I'll be planning to keep my in a storage facility once she's running, no way in hell I will be parking her in the middle of Downtown St. Petersburg...I'd rather pay the monthly fee and have to drive to the storage place every time I want to drive just for the piece of mind...

To keep it secure from nasty weather I store it in a heated space with 24 hr. security camera and a good security system. But I'm sure a talented thief can figure out how to get around those.

What's my beef about do a search? Because if you are regular to the site and see the same questions asked and answered over and over and over you get tired of it and the waist of bandwidth.

It would take you 15 seconds to find hundreds of replies to this question.

That's like asking some one to write you a dictionary because your to lazy to pick up the one on the shelf. This site will do just fine with out having the same shit re hashed every day.

I did do a quick search , Tim , and what came up was Wheel Boots that will lock the car in place . I guess the toooooo many threads you talk about didn't do Hot Turkey much good did it .Obviously a review is necessary .

1.GPS is a great idea ....AFTER they take the car .
    2. Neighbours are great if you really know them but I find that has changed for the worse over the years ...closeness just isn't there .
    3. Blocking the garage door with another vehicle ...maybe even neighbours vehicle would work ...I like that idea
    4. Wonder if you could rig a siren to go off if there was a break in ??

^^^this. Having so many threads on this subject as well as others makes the info SO spread out. Bringing up an already existing thread for other who haven't seen it to read, and to up-date it with new info/ideas just makes better sense.

  19. Since I can't sit at home locked and loaded waiting for the thieves, the idea that a gps device would afford me an introduction to them, after ample prep time is a reassuring thought.

  20. Yep. Layers of security is the key. A gate inside the door, cameras, etc...You're not going to stop someone from trying to steal your stuff, but you can slow them down. And if they do manage to get it, you can collect evidence.

Get a surveillance system that has cameras you can see, and some that you can't. I had help designing my serveilance system from a video forensic specialist that works for the local PD. He's the son of one of my coworkers.

It sends me a text message if specific cameras sense movement armed or not. Then I can view the cameras on my phone from anywhere. If I'm nearby, lead starts flying. If I'm not there, my neighbor is... lead starts flying.

get one that has night vision, and has an uninterruptable power supply. Also get a dummy system incase they try to steal the hard drive.

Don't buy those el-cheap-o surveillance systems from cosco etc (unless it's your dummy system). The video will not stand up in court unless it is a specific format, and the cameras and record frame rate must be good also.

You want the video to stand up in court so you can show the jurry how fast you can reload.

I got stuff from these guys:

I found this to be VERY interesting: Microdots

Every car has a unique serial number called the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). The VIN is only on the car in a few places. If your car is taken to a chop shop almost none of the individual pieces of your car can be identified. But if you attach miniature security tags to your car the thieves can be caught with stolen merchandise.
When you order microdots you receive hundreds of dots in an adhesive. You use a brush applicator to dab a tiny amount of the glue (a fluorescent adhesive, visible under a blacklight) onto a variety of locations on your personal property. Each dab contains 3-5 microdots. You can tag your windows, hubcaps, tire rims, speakers, stereo, shock absorbers and so on. In some states you can receive a discount on your car insurance for using these dots.
The microdots are hard to find as they are about the size off a typographical dot.
The manufacturing of these tags is accomplished using advanced UV laser technology. The laser burns a mark onto the surface which can be read by a jeweler's loupe or by a 30x magnifying glass.
    .
To purchase and learn more about Microdots:
(No, I am not selling anything. I put this up for information only.)

Here is the thread that I started last week.

HELPING Fellow HAMB Members Stop and/or Slow Down Possible Car Thieves!

    http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=744963

Hopefully this one doesn't get shut down like my did last week. At least we got two pages of ideas before it was shut down. I definatley think we need a thread that will help guys keep there cars. If one idea saves one car from a C sucking thief then it was worth created a thread that focuses on detering thieves!

The cheapest Android phone you can find will also work for this. Don't even need to put a SIM card in it...

Pretty hard to beat the big, noisy dog and good neighbour combo for when the car is at home.
It's a bit more difficult when you are out on the road. Mine is parked out on the street every day I work, and sadly, it will probably be gone one day when I go to drive home...

My uncle used to keep a dirty great big Carpet Python in his hot rods back in the sixties :D
These days someone would steal your car just to get the snake.

Talk to your neighbors. Tell them you are not moving. Ask them to get information and photos if anyone is removing stuff from your house or garage. Get to know your neighbors. Watch out for them, and ask them to watch out for you.
