The only slightly baffled lake style headers and open hood sides gave my coupe a raucous sound and showed off it's Y block engine, but after two years in this configuration I would like to be able to speak to some one without having to shut the engine off. Also I have always thought a fenderless hot rod looked "bitchin" with a full hood.
So I took the coupe back to the shop that built it, Barillaro Speed and had ace fabricator Mike Barillaro build me a one off custom set of stainless headers and complete under car stainless pipe and muffler system. I had good set of Model A hood sides, but since the coupe is on a deuce chassis they didn't quite fit. So the sides were cut and extended to fit with the one piece hood top of the original build and are easily removable when I want to expose the Y block. First picture is original build configuration. Nice!! Hope you don't get cursed at for using a Chevy engine like I did. People see a rear dist. and just assume.

    Beautiful Coupe either way.
I think you’ll like it, I incorporated the undercar exhaust system with my plugged gear drive lakes headers and the Y block sounds nice running through Porter mufflers.

Those that have a clue will notice that although the distributor is in the rear it is at an angle, those who don't who cares!

Interesting to read your thoughts on the subject. I have thought about either adding a hood top to my coupe or doing a top with custom sides that can drop around my headers. I have the drop down full exhaust so don’t have the noise issue you’re talking about. I have the original full hood for my coupe as well still. Looks good.
