What an awesome thread, see a few historic drag racing machines I saw in California in the late 50's and early sixties. I don't think any machines were more stunning than Tony Nancy's fine cars, outstanding. I love checking out the backgronds and surrounding scenes, thanx everyone who contributed to this excellent historic thread. ~sololobo~
What a great thread. Thanks to all that posted pictures for us to enjoy. Looking at the roadsters from '47-'48, do you think they left the rear suspension stock or pulled leaves or reversed the spring eyes?
Wow--pretty sure that's(the guy without the helmet) my old automotive tech. instructor from early 70's, Jim Blackburn, Blackies son.
this was a Ca. car my father in law bought it back in the late 60s or early 70s he still has it in a barn collecting dust outside Olympia Wa.
That car was built in Vancouver,Wa. by my old friend Jack Gillis. The first shot was taken in 1949, the day it was fired up for the first time. The second was taken in '55, after it had been switched from a "circle tracker" to a drag car. I wrote a story on Jack for HRD, here is the link. http://www.hotrod.com/hotroddeluxe/1401_the_first_gmc_blown_roadster_jack_gillis/ e

Speaking of guys named Jack, here is another friend of mine and the story I wrote about him. BTW both Jacks are 86 now !!!!! Here is the link http://www.hotrod.com/feature_stories/1407_you_dont_know_jack/
It's a shame so many pictures are missing, what's left is awesome, but It would be better if all pix could be restored. ........... Jack
So I've been looking around for almost a year or more for info and pictures of my grandfather Arless Knight... he died before I was born and my father never met him either. We have a few pictures of him.. was interested in where you found the pictures (5th picture down I believe)
