History The Ultimate Route 66 Photo Journey Thread

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by curbspeed, Nov 12, 2012.

  1. After seeing a post yesterday about the anniversary of The Mother Road I got to thinking. I know I will never probably have the time or the money to explore Rt. 66 completely. But I bet with the collective power of the HAMB we could all see a great deal of the sights all along that famous 2000 mile ribbon of pavement that brought so many people out West. So let us get our kicks on rt. 66.

So what I am proposing to you all is post up your photos of anything interesting along Rt 66 only. Old cars, signs, neat buildings. Even interesting stories of people who have been there all along. Hotrod trips with your buddies. I think we will get a lot of really interesting things put up here. Anything is fair game as long it has something to do with the Route 66 corridor. Let's see where this journey will take us. If you can please post what city and state your pictiures are from. I think this thread could be epic!
I'll start. HAMB DRAGS road trip 2011 with 6 crazy Kiwi's. Erick,Oklahoma somewhere. I can't remember but I'm sure someone will recognize the places. A couple of the other ones were in the Texas obviously. My buddies Squeak Bell and Kevin Perry by the old blue stubnose Ford. These guys rule bigtime!!!

I am diggin that collection of tin!
Where did you say this was at ?

  4. Scooter, Look at the sign on the front of the building and you will know. It says Erick Oklahoma. It was a neat stop. We talked with some old timers there and had a good yarn. The picture of the old tin was somewhere in New Mexico. I can't remeber the name of the wrecking yard. None of it was for sale.

  5. The town of Seligman AZ is divided by 66. The north side was the ranchers, and the south side belonged to the railroad men.

There were frequently disagreements between the cowboys and RR men regarding who was tougher. Especially at the Black Cat Saloon.

A good friend of mine has a granddad that was born, raised and still lives in Seligman. He was a railroad man.

One night we were all at the 'Cat, (granddad has a few beers in him) and he says (loudly)... "I see a lot of cowboy hats in here, but I don't see any cowboys!" That was a fun night.

What great idea for a thread. I can see other threads splintering off of this one. Such as, US80 from San Diego to Tybee Island, GA and US 1 from Maine to Key West, FL.

If you don't poke around and backtrack on Rt. 66 you miss a lot of stuff and some Great People.

What a cool thread! I'll never get there but I can only imagine the drive behind a purring flattie. Let's see some more shots from whats left of the more northern end from Chicago south.
