Jeff, I'm rather disappointed in this project. It's been 3 1/2 weeks since you started and you're still messing around with the chassis. Normally by now you'd have had the car on the road and already put 500 miles on it. You're slipping....

got a little more done, got the torque tube shortened and 36 bones shortened and all installed and put some 40 drums and backing plates on the back too.

been too busy working on customer cars of course!

got the body on tonight, so i figured id play with the rear ride height and also play with the liscence plate taillight layout.

I cant stand mismatched wheels so i put the matching front runners on it, they arent the right size for what im looking for but at least they match for now, the wheels and tires on it are probably gonna be used on another project, they are a great color but again not the color i want for my car.

getting close on the stance, front end has to come down a little and bigger front tire

What size are you gonna run Jeff?
the inspiration pic looks like 6.00 & 7.00's which would be correct for the era.

yep, thats what im thinkin too, the tires on it are 750s and 425/450s, ive got some roller 600 im puting on some steel wheels and have some 700 here i can stick on it too, so down the road ill work on it some more, i also am going to either take a couple of leaves out or reverse the main leaf.

im also and working on a buddy so i can buy the pair of 40 v8-60 3.5 wide wheels from him for the front.

i had to try on the thickstun heads and intake for size!

also the motor had a stuck valve so figured id fix that while i put the heads on, but upon inspection of the motor with the the head off one piston is broke, looks like some of the ring came thru the top side of the piston, looks like its getting a bore job, and maybe a merc crank and a 3/4 cam!

Nice. Looking forward to the pedal installation with the side shift as that's something I fancy doing - I remember seeing another build on here a while ago with some good reference photos, but will have to try a search to find it again.

Do you really need the extra skinny front wheels for the 6.00s or will it make the sidewall bulge match the 7.00s on 4" rears? I understand that 7.00s suit a wider rim than 7.50s because of the tread width?

I remember the first time I saw a set of Thickstun heads in real life (not just pictures). They were on a metallic green highboy '32 five-window on the Minnesota State Fairgrounds, over on a south side lot. Was a long time ago, I think it was the Nationals, or maybe it was a BTTF's. I asked the guy if he'd like to trade for some finned aluminum heads, but he said no. How about you Titus, wanna trade?

thanks, yeah, the pedals and shifter area is gonna be fun!
i dont know that the 3.5 rim is necessary, but i hate fat wide looking tires and 600s are on the verge of being to wide for my liking.

cant say that ive ever seen the car, and my heads are in their home now!

6.00's are too big for a highboy hotrod's front tire. Try a 5.50x16.

The red 32 tudor has 5.50 and 7.00 Firestones on it from Coker. The treads don't match, but the side flutes are pretty close.

those are the tires i had on it before and it just bothered me enough, ill probably run 600s on the narrow rims and they will work out fne.

plus you got fenders to hide them, i had to stare at them thte whole time!

alright, i basically got all of my column shift shit all done and set up and most of the pedal assembly worked out, i still have to mount the master and make an arm to weld to the brake lever but thats about it, here are a bunch of pics and maybe a video of the linkage working, im probably gonna do a tech post on it so ill probably go into more detail there.

basically i mounted the steering box and column, figured out where the column shifter arms would fit, mounted them then took the column back out and shorted the arm to to the top of the column, then i just had to shorten up the stock 40 arms about 1/2 inch, then the fit right on, so that part was actually really easy.

then onto the pedals, i narrowed the pedal box quite a bit, i narrowed it to 2-1/4 inches, then i took off enough material from each pedal so they would fit in the box, i also had to shorten the lenghth of the brake pedal cause it would have run into the shift arm on the column, i took 1 inch from the length of the arm, i did the same to the clutch arm even tho it was uneeded.

    <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/CKImyd0G6ww" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

here a quick vid of it working, for not really being tuned in it shits pretty nicely.

heres a link to the tech post

no real major progress but i got the front subrail and floor welded it, still need to make the front floors.

also found a pair of 81s for it and dug out a gas pedal for it
