I went with Salt Flat Specials. Lowered evenly, shaved, and a slight chop.
I think this car would look great painted a dark shade with a Green Hornet vibe.

I failed to get the image attached on the last post...maybe it will this time...was just wondering if someone could photoshop what my '39 Chevy sedan might look like with:

Candy apple red (or thereabouts) below the belt-line...a dark purple above the belt-line (including the top of hood) and some yellow flames on front and along sides of hood.

Just picked this one up. Going to turn it into a feasable daily driver + Family cruiser.

Would like to see it lowered a bit with WWW's and a solid color... or two-tone.... hell, have fun with it! :D

I dig Studebakers, so here's what I came up with:
Lowered, nose down just a bit. Found some period chrome wheels.
They were on an Avanti, so they should fit if you can find 'em!

I cleaned up the doghouse by eliminating the wind wings.
And I chopped the top, too, but only an inch.

Ha! I feel like that's what it looks like already. Guess how it is now isn't that bad when you compare it to what you did. LOL. Thanks.

Anyone want to chop an old Opel Kapitän? Maybe some whitewall tyres and such?

  20. Another Opel - chopped, two doored, couped slightly and raised the front wheel arches so you can fit some proper sized wheels and get rid of the opel shirt buttons!

I don't know why, but this morning I decided to make a blue ute out of it.

    Nice job, James!

Opel had some pretty cool, trans-atlantic styling in the fifties and sixties. In the USA, the Opel Kadette and later Manta and GT were "companion cars" to the Buick. That gave Buick dealers a smaller, grocery-getter to sell alongside the big cars.

Clare McKitchen who designed the 1958 Chevy, was posted to Opel later. He was responsible for much of their sixties styling.

My version: cleaned up the usual clutter, added white walls and the center toothy grille bar from the 1953 Opel.

  26. Thanks.

Interesting, and it explains a great deal. Pity the proportions of these cars are so off usually - mutant high roof lines and narrow bodies. And that the coupe versions (if any exist) are usually too rare and valuable to chop up. I was photochopping a Vedette recently, and for a car that looks an awful lot like a 50 Merc, it´s a real challenge to make it look right.

Did a bit more - put the front wheels where they should be. No idea why they´re pushed back so far. To fit some existing platform I suppose.

GM designer Bill Mitchell once remarked,
"Designing a small car is like tailoring a dwarf."

Which is why so many American attempts to down-size cars in the seventies and eighties looked atrocious. They started with a big-car mentality and tried to shrink them down. Even when they started designing smaller cars from the ground up, it took awhile to understand the "Small is Beautiful" concept.

  28. :D I agree. It´s like they took all the same big parts and just put them closer together.

    thanks

I like that. Something about the front fender, roof, and tail light reminded me of 55-56 Chryslers, so I hope you don't mind that I did a version of your design with a small fin.
