I would consider this car a full custom. A very cool full custom. You used to have a yellow rpu years ago didn't you. I could very well be mistaken. I considered that a Street Rod but then the price was right. Certainly dig this coupe, thanks.
Beautiful. Loved the engine turned suspension when he raised the headlight. Don't care for the grille guard and I wonder what the open area in the hood would look like with the grille treatment carried over. But I feel like a jerk criticizing a work of art and craftsmanship. It is a beauty.
Beautiful car. I felt the skirts were trying a little too hard, but seeing them in action as they turn with the wheels is awesome. I also hadn't appreciated how many other details were tweaked and "cheated" to make the car look better than stock without losing its character. In the 1950s, Harry Bradley's "La Jolla" featured sleek re-styling, rocker panel lighting, electrically operated hood and doors, tinted taillights to complement the paint color, and hand controls so its paralyzed owner/designer could operate the car. Between the re-styling and the mechanical inventiveness, this Merc reminds me of La Jolla...slick, classy, carefully re-engineered, and super trick.
Yes I too consider that yellow RPU a streetrod. Only kept it for alittle over a year. . This is Not to get into a streetrod discussion. Only to praise the car. New styled interior, new designed suspension and a new engine puts it in that category imho.
Not to brag but I had that cowl plenum idea a few years ago and never did anything about it...just sayin. All envy aside, an incredible car. I hate watching crap like that because my skill level goes down a few degrees in comparison every time. Maybe ill take up knitting.
Gorgeous custom! All that and yet at 27 seconds you can see the windshield Stainless halfway up the A pillar on the passenger side is poorly fitted/not welded
I consider anything with a 3.23 or taller rear gear a street rod...just to put some of the std HAMB rhetoric in perspective...I agree, beautiful car.
Again, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. To me, driving that would be like riding a moped. Fun as crap till your buddies saw you.
Its not a car I have any desire to own, but its just not my thing. But it is a hell of a build. That grill would sure look good on my convert...
That car is a work of art, a traditional custom, a french coachbuilt (delahaye) inspired marvel. It takes great vision to pull it off and they did it.
A true work of art! But I have one question, that I'm sure somebody can answer: what is the masking tape on the plug wires for?
I noticed that also, it really looks awkward. I tig welded and polished my shoebox windshield molding. . .
too many people get all weird over definitions, street rod, hot rod , rat rod, fart rod... who cares.
@ 1:54 you can see splits on both sides 1/2 way up, I wonder why. I wouldn't kick her out of bed for that though.
