Technical THE ONE PIECE THAT ELUDES YOU

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by HOTRODPRIMER, Jul 25, 2021.

  1. Maybe the part is made from unobtainium or due to it's rarity you would have to sell a kidney to be able to buy it.

With me the desire to have the optional 1954 Ford steering wheel comes and goes every time I see a car sporting one, I just think they are a thing of beauty but who knows, I might stumble up on one that is affordable st a swap meet some day.

What's that elusive part you would like to get your hands on? , maybe if we all keep our eyes open we just might run across that missing piece of a fellow members puzzle. :) HRP

A factory issued hinge pin mirror assembly for my '46 pickup. Been looking for the correct one for years now.

  4. Not mine but something I sold. Apparently a lot of folks are looking for original Auburn dash panels. I probably get 3 or 4 emails a year for the one I sold a few years back in the classifieds.

Right now rust free Model A Ford TUDOR door tops. You would think there are a few doors rusted up to the glass or run over in yards, but no, nobody has junk doors with savable tops.

    Bob

All I need is the top above the door hinge, will buy one or four. (Top one is a TUDOR, 28-29 Fordor under it)

Screenshot_20210725-112640_(1).png I would love to find a half decent set of these fenders in steel for a 47 Ford, that I could afford. I have a set of 48s, but these are so beautiful.

A good Corvette trap door oil pan...

  8. I hear you, about 10 years ago I sold my extra set of Ranch Wagon scripts in the classifieds and since no one has ever reproduced them they are hard to find.

I still get a occasional conversation wanting to know if I have any or know where to find them. HRP

A single 4bbl tunnel ram for a sbc  hey kid, did you know that a tri five door top is the same length? I've been in your shoes. And if you're into having a little fun, use the wing window also. A hammer and dolly corrects the curve at the front of the door ;) 20181023_110741.jpg

Well, the one item that I was never able to find that pushed me into not restoring my ‘32 Dodge pickup was a 3 prong radiator cap for it. This was before I was real internet savvy;).
I’d even joined the DBC in the 90’s so I could put in a wanted ad. Ran it for the year I was in the Club, no love.
Well other factors came into play about not restoring it, but that damned radiator cap was the thing that pushed me over it!

  19. I fixed a viper for a guy. He knew I was into old junk. Asked if I wanted some old Hemis a friend of his had for sale.
he picked em up and brought em to work.
$600 for the pair. 100% complete. Even the transmissions. They turned out to be 331s but I’m not picky.
Another guy I fixed a car for said he had a 392, went to look at it. Ran the numbers. It was a 354. He got so mad he gave it to me.
like an idiot I traded the block for something.
still have the heads and two 5 gallon buckets of parts off it.
Another friend is a Chevy guy. Has this intake that “was heavy and had 2 AFBs on it”. He hates mopars. Says I can have it if I ever build one of my hemis. It’s a 55 C300 intake and carbs. Hope to take him up on that.

the biggest part I can never find is the time to build all the crap I have parts for.

I have been looking for a nice 1926-27 nickel plated radiator shell for a long time. I have only found them with the nickel half rubbed off and cracked. They are made from brass. Not reproduced. Taller than the '23. I have had a couple of fellas tell me they had one hanging on the wall, but not for sale. Damn hoarders.

  21. Fuzzy, the wheel that is reproduced by Limeworks is similar but iy is designed to look like the 49 -51 Ford, they have X shaped wheel spokes and horn ring.

The 52-54 has a K shaped spoke and horn ring, easy mistake in identification. HRP

Easy way to ID them is the Round hood lacing holes, steel shells have square stamped holes. The Round holes are to prevent the brass from stress cracks. Bob

Yep. The one I have on my car now is a nickel plated, cracked one that I soldered up, bondo-ed and painted. It has the round holes. Weren't the steel/painted ones only on commercial, trucks etc?

  26. Anthony I officially hate you!!
Everyone I find around here everyone thinks they are gold. I know where there’s a 57 Fargo 2 ton that has a 354 Hemi, hasn’t moved in twenty years and the truck is not in good shape, he wants $12,000 for it because he knows what he is are worth…

  27. I usually trade labor for parts. It’s got to the point where folks will ask me what I’m looking for before they ask me to fix something
    But all these are cores.
I did nick up a complete 331 with 55 heads for $800. That was 20+ years ago. The kicker was the forged pistons that came with it.
I did a quick search. Seems prices have gone up

now these are advertised as “rebuilt”
That’s darn industrial valve cover. Man their sexy.

  28. I’m good with a core, I would rather build it anyways. I have a line on a 331 that may be for sale, he only wants to deal In person, which I’m good with, we just need to get together.

For me it was a good 57 Ford Custom/Custom 300 decklid. I looked for 5 years before Cool57 hooked me up with one. No shortage of Fairlane parts, but the short lid was impossible to find in good shape.

A non Chinese 30-31 model a stainless cowl band that actually fits. Have two pretty rough originals and one after market that would not fit .
