Hot Rods The Official Track-Lakes Roadster Picture Thread...

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by OoltewahSpeedShop, Nov 7, 2009.

  1. The rhd T is Seth Hammond from Santa Barbara..........talented and creative guy. Did a lot of quirky but cool things on rods in the '70s and '80s. More into land speed racing stuff now.
The next one down is the Highland Plating Special for those that don't know.

    Always loved your '27 Doug................

  2. We got my daughters T on the frame rack on the weekend. Parts collected, OG deuce rails, hopped up Chevy II banger, WC T-5, '47 Mercury truck open banjo, Whippet shell, BMW cowl steering, 1/4 elliptics, split n sunk fuel tanks. She is 15 and cant wait to drive it to high school!

[IMG]@thunderbirdesq do you have a thread or more pictures of your rear suspension set up? Triangulated 4 link with early parts? Thanks

So many little details in this chassis. R hand clutch lever on an overhead cross shaft. Do you ever sleep coming up with stuff like this? My brain doesn't shut down and I am no where near on that level of sadistic self torture.

haha try a glass of warm milk before bed. I know what you mean. Necessity is the mother of invention though, Not much real estate in the driver footwell area on a channeled track t roadster with a set back engine. If you want to sit in it and not on it and have it feel half way comfortable to drive you’ve gotta get creative.

    Hello,

From early little kid days, we used to see flames on photos from those Hot Rod/Rod & Custom pages. We tried to draw them all of the time on any surface, including school notebooks, bikes, go karts, wagons and even our own lawnmower. But, they never looked as good as on those early, smooth nose roadsters. The nose made it look as if there was a definite starting point for the flames flowing back to the open seating area.

The funny thing was, we always thought those roadsters with the funny nose sections were only for racing in various events, Bonneville, El Mirage, circle races, etc. We never saw them driving on the streets along with the normal grille style open roadsters like the 29s and 32s. Those were plentiful on the So Cal streets and in the various car shows, but not the rounded nose roadsters.

So, thanks for the nice place to put these ideas. The round nose roadsters did have advantages over the relatively square/flat surfaces of the straight up chrome grilles of the 29’s and 32’s. a smooth flow of air going over the nose toward the back of the hot rod. Kudos, those El Mirage/Bonneville guys/girls knew their stuff.

Jimmy B are you using the bottom section of the stock windshield? I'm trying to figure out how to get something a little taller using mostly stock pieces.
