Good point.......6-8' of rear overhang, and a motor that's a foot farther back in the wheelbase than it originally was go a long way toward yankin the wheels and draggin the bumper I bet!:)

Hey Ric I had installed some 4.30 but my car didnt seem to like them. Car runs through the trap at 5700 and I beleave the cam that is in this thing is running out.
You had asked earlyer about timing its at 38 total running a mopar electonic dist with a MSD 6 AL box have a poor mans trans brake. I have had the timing at 40 but the MPH fell off so I was thinking that was too much. With my 2 step I can launch at 3200 and timing is all in at that RPM.

Yep. The rear axle centerline is moved 8" the front is ahead 4", and the engine is back 2".

  11. Sounds like you have the tune on your particular combo pretty well sorted out. Have you gone the other way with the total advance, and tried 36, or maybe a high gear retard, and knock a couple degrees out after you shift into high. Believe it, or not, your giving up a little by using the two step. Every time it shuts the fire of in that cyl. the cyl. goes cold. If you leave off the foot brake, without the two step, the engine is cleaner, and has all 8 cyl. firing together. It should pick up a little in the 60' which will pick it up all the way down track. Two steps are actually harder on pistons, rods, pins, rings etc. The engine takes a gulp of air/fuel on the intake stroke, and this takes up volume in the cyl. Increasing pumping pressure. When you turn the spark plug off with the two step, that cyl. gets a pressure spike as the piston goes over TDC, without firing the mixture, kinda like its trying to hydraulic that cyl. You would think that the ignition pressure when firing the plug would be worse, but its not, the unfired pressure spike from tha air/fuel mixture and piston rod assembly running over TDS without the plug firing is worse. You should see what happens to pistons (especially the skirts, when you use a two step, or hit the high rpm limiter in a power adder engine (nitrous, blowers, turbos).

It has been awile sence this turd has been down the track but it seem like I started at 36 and kept moving it up whatcing the MPH tell it fell off and then backed it down. The 2 step is not all that consistent but never made much differance if it worked or not.
Get this the best 60 foot time was with the 4.30 gears when it spun at the tree.
I think the day that I had the 4.30 gear in it the weater wasnt very good (hot and muggy) then I changed the offy intake for the eddy and started to pick back up. Probable was not a very good test on the gear change. I will take both gears with me on this trip. I like the idea of the high gear retard always wanted to try it.
I know if I do the head and maybe a cam swap every thing will change.

  13. Salt flats if you can get your hands on a msd dist get one. The mopar dist are not that good and that is coming from a hard core mopar guy. You will hear the differance as soon as you start it up. No joke. Mopars sound good only at 40 degrees but run better at 38

  14. Ditto on the MSD suggestion, over the years, I'v heard nothing but crap about the Chrysler dist. Doesn't it also require a ballast resistor?, I never understood that!

I will see if I can get my hands on one. The mopar one was better than the dual point that was in it.

Ass scratching is an autonomic function in men therefore cannot be considered as true multitasking.

In fact there are studies that show that a man can scratch his ass without thinking at all. In some cases it replaces the need to breath and pump blood. Why else would we do it in public places, around women and in Church ?

Some creationist theories have speculated that on the 7th day, when God rested, he scratched his ass... again, supporting the basic need concept.

For those of you who do not support the God theory... it has been a proven fact that the guy who lit the fuse on the big bang...scratched his ass.

Oh yah... back on topic... Meltdown...Whoo Hooo !!!

  17. Although I don't always act as one.., "but I am getting betta" (more Montey Python), but I am a Christian, and I love the word picture, God is the guy is who lit the fuse on the "Big Bang".., good one! Now, back to work on a certain '56!, besides, I ran out of paint chips to chew on.

There is nothing wrong with the Mopar distributor. The MSD has provisions to make it easier to make changes but that hardly renders the Mopar unit obsolete. There were several versions of Mopar distributor, some better than others, but they always worked for Jenkins, Landy, McCandles, Sox & Martin and countless others. If the distributor you have is in good working order, you should be able to make adjustments to it that will allow you to tailor it to do anything you would like.

  19. I stand corrected then, Dblgun knows his Mopars too, if he says so, then it is so.

  20. yes sox and the others did start off with the mopar dist.keep in mind sox was using a mopar dist in his cars because msd had not invented the pro billet dist.at that time. when the msd came out none of the pros were using the mopar any more. times change and so do the parts available. one quick look at bob reeds silver bullets that sox drove prior to his passing show no mopar dist.in site. wow the muli time record holder and national event winner does not have the mopar dist. in fact i don't know of any ss/a drivers that run a mopar dist. i do agree some mopars were better than others. we ran the steel tach drive race dist. with a chrome box on the street for years thats the best us mopar guys had back then they worked good. now days the msd pro billet is hands down better than any mopar ever made. there is less variation in the timing. they run bearings not bushings so they have tighter tolerances. do a test of your own run a mopar then the msd. the car will start faster and sound different. it will make more consistent power. my son and i have done just this on his super bee. the dyno doesn't lie. not only will it run better things like launch control, two steps, shift lights, built in rev limiter, spead out poles on the cap,and multiple spark are all plusses that make the mopar obsolete. the mopar dist belongs in restoration projects. the mopar is a entry level ignition. the msd is king daddy for a reason.

That tank on the front has nothing but air in it. Hopefully the tracks I plan to run at will be cool. I'm not going to run it in bracket racing or anything. It's mainly for exhibition type runs. I really don't want to break things...

  22. they look so cool set up like that. good to hear its a dummy tank. the guy at quaker state was a real jag. your car does have the right look. nice job.

I just scrolled through the racer photos on Facebook (which I do about once a week). The MD race is going to be an epic display of vintage iron. Here's my problem, it's going to kill me to not set out a session or two and just take in the race. I'm proud to be a part of it but the spectator in me is screaming to watch! I'm not a hard core racer, actually the opposite. I know I can watch while I'm waiting for my turn to run, but I'm still missing the stuff in front of me. Is it just me being weird or something?

It's really funny that you said that, because I've been thinking the same thing!:)
I'm gonna be all googly eyed and just wanting to watch every run....but if my car is working right,I'm sure I will end up making eleventeen dozen passes!:)

"Fxxx you I'm not driving 2 hours unless there are fxxx'n turbos and nawz. you assholes race old stuff cuz you don't have what it takes to run with real race cars."

SO I HAVEN'T BEEN ON HERE IN A FEW DAYS....AND LETS JUST SAY THIS, AND I AM NOT KIDDING.

GLAD THESE IDIOTS KNOW THEIR HISTORY....NOT!!

Dave I hope you were typing to him with your middle finger the entire time!

Side by side would be pretty cool. I was also thinking about all of the AWB cars in some type of formation.
