The Official 1941-48 chevy picture thread

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 31Vicky with a hemi, Apr 30, 2012.

  1. Edit: I changed the title- let's see them all instead of just the 41 coupes.

I'd like to see pics of 41 Chevy coupes.
Any style that's traditional, hot rod, customs, tail draggers, drag cars.

I know someplace between "a little and nothing" about this car.
So what ever comments you have about them will more than likely be new to me - good or bad

    What's the chances a Chrysler 392 will fit ?

  2. All I can find are the street rod type pics or piles.

This one will probably be in Bowling green racing at the Hot Rod Reunion.

That one is a 1940 which is actually a completely different body than the 41.

This is the best 41 that I've run across. It was chopped by my friend Paul Garland - it was his at the time. I think it sold to a new owner the day these pics were taken.

    That is really sharp, cleatus.

31vicky, have you tried searching Rikster's site? Carnut.com? Just plain Google image search?

  9. HAMB search brings up about 21 threads and not many pics. Funny thing is the other 41 Chevy pic request thread didn't go far and little to no pics. As usual some of them are gone.

Google image brings up lots of street rods and some piles.
    Been at it a while.

    Seems they aren't very common

Here are some pics of the 330 DeSoto hemi in my 41 Chevy coupe. I'd say the 392 Chrysler will fit!

I would think a 392 would fit no problem.

  12. Thanks guys. Keep the pics coming

So how about some general info on these things.
Prone to problems, common rust issues, drive line donors, suspension upgrades, shock conversions

Well, I just did a Google image search and you are right, what pops up is mostly bone stockers and street rods.
I have always thought they were the best looking pre-1949 Chevy and wish I had one. Around 10 or 15 years ago a guy built a pretty spectacular (although street rod-ish) convertible that was grasshopper-eye green. For some reason I can't find a photo on Google. Anyone know the car I mean? It was in the magazines at the time.

I know. I have a 41 chevy 2dr sedan that I am undecided which way to go with it. Almost to big and bulky to go hot rod but I can't find any pictures of customs or taildraggers. I have found some coupes but no sedans.

  20. Well bring the coupes over here. :)

  21. Here's a stocker...............

  22. Here's one I helped my father in law build, It has Halibrand 5 spokes on it now. The rally wheels were only temporary. It may be coming up for sale as his health is not good.

I remember it well, but it was actually a 1940 not 41.
It was influential to me when I first started my project because it was, at that time, the only example I could find of a 40 Chevy that was built custom(ish). When I first saw it, it was still painted gloss black instead of the chameleon color & looked a lot less street-rod, but I don't have a pic of that version.

'41 "A" bodies are among my favorite GM cars, especially the Chevy, but Pontiac, Olds and Buick all used that body shell. Actually, they were built through '48 although from '42 on they had the 'pontoon' front fenders that extended into the front door.

I have owned a couple of '41 Chevs in the past, one of which was a Convertible, but that was over 30 years ago. Currently I have a '41 Buick Special 5 Pass Sport Coupe, same basic body as shown in the pics for '41 Chev.

On Chevys, chassis upgrades are fairly easy as the rear suspension is parallel leaf springs, the front crossmember/suspension unbolts and several companies make MMII derived suspension kits. The Chassis Engineering offering is bolt on, simplifying installation. The frames are fully boxed, consisting of a "hat" section upper with a boxing plate running the full length under that.

Though the basic shell was shared with '42/'48, the cowl is different where the fenders and hood attach and it is not easy to retrofit front end sheet metal between '41 and '42/'48.

The official 41-48 Chevy picture thread

Or maybe start a new one ?
