just testing, lets see if these cars turn up..back in the 60s a friend of mine Richard Razer? had a Corvair Corsa turbo Spyder convertable, kind of rootbeer with black top. That wasn't fast enough so he bought a kit? to put SBC/327 in backseat. had a fiberglas cover over eng/backseat, made car like a roadster. It was scary fast. Had a chance to buy it for 1500.00 alot of coin in those days..another friend John bought a 31 Dodge/Plymouth? coupe with a 331 Hemi and six deuce set-up, when you nailed it it would go hard left or hard right or kinda straight, it was an ex drag car, white with wavy American flag on the side..my vote has to go to the little yellow bug-eye with the big Hemi innit or the Porsche 914 with the 500 caddy..actually I've seen that combo around alot, guy in San Antonio had a nice 54 Chevy Pickup with Caddy and transaxle in back over duallys and luggage in front engine bay under hood....rixrex

I worked with a guy who had a neighbor who put a 427 BBC into a 49 chevy. Not under the hood, but in the passinger-side, it sat right beside him. They said this was in the late 60's, they don't know how some old holler-boy got ahold of a 427, but it was a running driving car.

not that odd but at 14 I put a falcon 6 in a 59 Anglia 101e sedan.I could only drive it in the field on our property .later i put a 351 Clevland into a 72 pinto sedan both engines were only stock and both swaps were done out in the driveway

An odd combination I would not have come up with.

    A Rover 3500 ( Buick 215 ) V8 in a old Mini.

    Front Wheel Drive...

Back in the early 70s there was a deuce roadster with a Model J Duesenberg engine and trans. It actually looked pretty kool with a hood twice as long as the original. I often wondered what ever happened to that car.

Back in the early 80's I saw at a car show a late 70's vette with a diesel engine. I don't recall what engine exactly. Likely one of the GM junk diesels.

Some of the cars listed here may have you scratching your head but you ended thinking they were cool. This car wasn't.

I watched the build up of this car over on the VW Vortex. It's not as bad as you'd think as far as fitment goes.

I guess my little project qualifies. Signature shows the recipe. It's a matter of cooking a soup with stuff that had accumulated over the years from previous projects, and then some choices such as the engine, based on what I had seen in my previous rides. The oddest part of the equation, the engine, was the easiest selection to make - I had decided on using it in a car style like this '51 a LONG time ago. This car is for me and not for sale - if it were, it would be better to stick the sbc in there.

Ford EFI/Turbo 300 cid straight six, JW Ultra Bell mated TH-350, aluminum SVO driveshaft, Jack Curry based Ford 9", 11" disc brakes around, Chassis Engineering MII IFS. This in a 1951 Chevrolet Styleline.

About 10 years ago at a cruise night I saw a '56 Ford F100 with a complete Olds Toronado 455 front wheel drive clip installed under the hood. Very cleanly done, very subtle truck, unless you looked underneath you wouldn't know anything was different about it.

  14. this dodge truck was built blown big block ford cause they were both in the garage at the same time. alot of engineering on the whole truck.

The other one is a blown 500 inch cadillac hooked to a six speed in a tilt body 32 roadster with $140,000 chassis

A buddy and I once slipped a 302 SBC in my '58 MGA roadster. I also had a '72 AMC Gremlin witha 396 4 speed, dana 60 rear and 4:11 gears. It was hairy! A guy here in town runs 11:10 consistantly in a super nice AMC pacer with a 455 Pontiac, and I friend of mine in high school had a 68 Chevy LWB truck with a 400 dodge. My first T Bucket had a 440 mopar, and my current project, a '27 Ford highboy will be powered by a 340 mopar.

A couple others I thought of,

911 with an Olds Toronado drivetrain, Corvete half shafts as I remember, Very nice instalation. The engine cover was a matched set of leather luggage bolted together and cut out, then insulated. when you looked in the back it just looked like someone on vacation.

In about 1965 a buddy of mine and I put a Straight 8 Buick in his '49 shoebox Ford. Back four cylinders in the front seat. Sort of happened because we were told it couldn't be done.

  17. I got a buddy gearing up to take a corvair setup and put it in the bed of a S10. That should be a fun toy. anyone ou here ever see a early 80's Escort with a sbf in it? I have always wanted to see that.

That would be an MGC, not many were imported. It was a factory deal for like 2 yrs. You could toss the Healey engine (that weighed 600 lbs) and drop in any American V8 and the front end would still sit higher.

I had a '66 Mercedes 200D that I stuck a Ford 2.8L V-6 in. I sent it in to the M-B Owners club newsletter, they banished me from their ranks. At least it didn't leave a soot trail when you stomped on it.

My very first car was a Datsun B-210 (honey B) with a buick 231 and 4 speed. I bought it for $800 and it consistantly got me enogh speeding tickets to lose my license at 18 years old.

I used to work at a shop where one of the mechanics had a 79 Mustang with a SBC in it.

I have a freind that shoe-horned a Taurus SHO engine into his Tempo. It is scarey fast.

Back in my auto-cross days, there was a guy that had a Hyndai Pony with a Mazda rotery engine.

I suppose my Packard 8 powered 29 Whippett modified qualifies, even if it isn't finished yet.
What about the 68 Camaro powered by a six cylinder Mercury boat engine , which had been converted to run on steam , steam was generated by a flash boiler in the trunk which was kerosene or LPG fired??
There was a story about it in one of the seventies Hot Rod annuals.

Oh i forgot about the guy i know that has a real studebaker goldenhawk....... except it has a nova sub frame, with a 69 455 olds and tranny, a 57 chevy rear end. a 77 trans am column and steering wheel, buckets out of a minivan, some rigged shifter sticking through a huge hole in the floor. its grey primer with the fins painted black, a set of rusty rally 2 pontiac wheels.....its freekin wierd looking, but it is fast, i rode in it once and it scared the hell out of me.

theres also another guy i know who is currently installing a eagle talon turbo on his 65 fairlane 4 door with a straight six.....

there is a Chevette around Lansing that has an Olds 455 and transaxle in the rear. they built big ass fender flares on the rear to cover the tires that stick fully outside the confines of the stock sheetmetal. the front is flared to match, there is a full cage and a racing fuel cell and giant nitros bottle up where the motor used to be. it's actually pretty neat.
