Well, It's been a few since my last HAMB post. I guess I've just not had alot to say. - not that that's stopped me in the past. But, I've purchased another old car because you can never have too many. right? It's a 1931 Ford Model A Coupe. The guy I got it from was going to restore it. There are are a lot of good parts with it - I don't really have a plan yet. Run the Banger, Flathead, Y-Block, Small Block - fenders - no fenders. Get it ruuning the way it sits and just tool around town. I have to ponder the possibilities. Right know I just like the way it looks in the garage - or Car Hole as I like to say. Some pics I hope
I'm jealous. You probably aren't tired of it yet, so it would be useless to ask if it's for sale, right? r
Damn right. We're all too jealous. Maybe this is a crazy idea, but here's what I'd like to see for the sedan: Z'd frame, suicide perch, stock wire wheels, no hood, lots of hop up goodies on the banger and a mild chop. Paint it up like a stocker, don't run fenders and spray primer on the pillars and doors where the chop surgery took place. Hang a restored '42-'44 license plate on the front of it and refuse to answer any questions about its origins.
If mine was that nice when I got it. I would have restored it also. It was a rust bucket, and so chop chop
Cadillincolna Bob forgot to mention that the serial numbers on the banger and the frame match... Its why I may cry when he chops it and lays the body on a 32 frame...
Awesome find! The A looks very complete and it would certainly be a tough call as to weather or not you should cut it up. This is however a HOT ROD board and I say chop chop!
I say keep the fenders, you don't have to cut the shit out of it to make a "traditional" car, matter of fact I'm kind of tired of seeing cars done the same way. I'm thinking something like the Alexander Bros pickup "Grasshopper".
I wasn't, but I might be if I said something that makes me look stupid. In point of fact, I could not advocate cutting up something that nice, I was just dreaming aloud.
Shop Night banger teardown??? I have to say, I'm kinda leaning towards a full fendered build and using alot of what I got. I might even keep the mechanical brakes - just for Bob K.......
i had this same dilema with my model a sedan, but i decided to run it as a stripped down stocker. besides there are so many of these cars restored that nobody is going to consider it a crime to cut it up ok some might
If you decide to take off the fenders please email me cuz I'd like to buy them from you if there in as good a shape as they appear. Thanks.
the fenders are in reeeeaaal nice shape (as well as the rest of it) but I think Bob is planning to run fenders. (I answered because Bob doesn't check in here too often, but I will make him aware of your interest)
Right on! To me the Alexander Bros.' "Grasshopper" shop truck is the ultimate Model A, and the inspiration for my in-progress '31 coupe project that abomber30 is building. A full-fendered A is all about the stance and rake, and chopping it is really unnecessary... anything more than a 1"-1.5" visually messes up the proportions. I am leaving mine unchopped, but I think the Grasshopper has 1" taken out. One of the cool things about the Grasshopper is that it has early '28-'29 A front fenders, because the Alexanders thought they wrapped the front tires more elegantly.
...is daily not often enough???? Well sometimes I have to work at work. Yes, I believe I am going to use the fenders. I'm thinking something like this... Just need to get the funds together. and get the Lincoln done and a few Cadillac things squared away and the Garage finished up...and and and....
