So what should I do to it first? And please don't tell me to make it into a 2 dr, I can't do that! This sat in a barn from '75 - '10, and is ready to stretch its legs.....
go over it and make sure it's safe to be on the road. Fix any problems and the drive the wheels off of it!
This was taken September 17 on it's test drive, we picked it up on Oct. 29th. My son is all over this thing but can't drive for 5 more years. I'm normally a www and skirt kinda guy, but those Rallys don't look half bad. It's too soon. The newness hasn't worn off and I'm still confused and in denial as to why a '55 Chevy is in my garage. We will be cruising out to Springfield, Oh for the swap meet this weekend with it. This will be the first time I'll be able to go to a swap meet and actually find things for a car I own!
What to do first? Go through the brake system, make sure they are up to snuff, replace the hoses and hard lines, and install a dual-reservoir master cylinder....(assuming it doesn't have one already). Make sure the e-brake system is working well too. Once you're confident it'll stop and stay stopped when parked, proceed with the other stuff.
Neat car, I've had my 55 for 15 years and I still go out to the garage and look at it just because Make it safe to drive, then find some better looking wheels
If it sat that long get rid of the rubber and put new rubber on it before you get it above 10 mph..................
It's you car but you did ask. I would go with some WWW 6.70's and a set of steel wheels with some nice wheel covers, like maybe Lancer discs or something?
Do this and paint the hood black, black primer, spray can, or something. Well.....Don't use a brush, but, get the hood to roughly match the rest of the car.
If it has seat belts, inspect the mountings and be sure that they're solid. If it doesn't have seat belts, add them.
I agree and a set of something like these with bigger tires would look good Disreguard the sittin high stance etc. on this 2 door bel air, just tryin to show the wheels on a black 55 I like 15s with 235 70s but 14s with bigger size tires look good as well.
Plus one on the make sure it is safe. Then Drive It !! Then drive it some more. And so on and on and on.... Nice looking '55 and I like the 4 doors too. Good for you..great find. Cheers..........
I like the rally wheels on tri-fives, actually. When I was a kid, a neighbor had a yellow and white 55 w rallys, and I always thought it looked cool. Brakes, tires and fuel systems are the first things to get squared away. Then drive the wheels off it.
make sure its safe and dependable and drive the heck out of it and later change the things you find ya dont like
looks like a good one I would fix what needs to be fixed and have fun. good lookin car love them 55 chevys
