I struck a deal last night and bought the Mystery Merc and I am really fired up. I noticed it months ago and was really trying to get the car but I didn't have any free car money but last week some shook loose and I started looking for another merc because I was sure that the Mystery Merc was gone but I got lucky and it was still available. The guy who owns it now was really cool and we talked for a long time about that car and other customs. He is a veritable dictionary for the California car scene. Anyway I will be the next caretaker for the car and I got a bunch of history on the car in the deal and I'll be posting it in the next few days. It was built by Reno and Roy Perretto in the bay area in the mid to late 50's. Here are some pics and I will post some of the historical documents and pics later.

Awesome score! I too thought long and hard about picking that beauty up, but couldn't make it happen. Glad to see that it is coming to Texas and hope to see it at Roundup 2012!

  7. Hard to believe that car started as a 51 Mercury vert! Glad it has a new caretaker. Ralph did a lot of work to bring that one back. Did you get to see the before pics when he first got it?

Yea he gave me those pics and he has done an awesome job bringing it back.
I can't wait to get it home.
I'll probably start by installing a crate 350 and 700r4 and then maybe get a colorado customs steering wheel and i gotta get some aluminum wheels on it somehow. Maybe some digital gauges would look cool too....

just kidding. not changing a thing...........

    Good for you... Great car.

It was really great to see it in person at the Sacramento Autorama in 2009.

I always liked it... very nice, and out of the box Custom.

Thats pretty good Troy. I'll probably have to put bags on it to lift it over the crappy roads in Leonard.

Very cool custom, can't wait for the details/history.. Lincoln roof? Nice..

  21. The roof looks a lot like my 51 Buick Special HT (also same as a 1951 Olds 88 HT)

  22. cant wait to see it in person

  23. I can't wait for a ride !

I am thinking curb feelers and a huge aluminum wing would right at home on that beauty. You can even borrow my drill !

That's a clean ass sled! It's simple but likeable in every area. Only thing I would change is put door handles back on it.

    VERY KOOL!!

When they did a centerfold of the Merc in Garage magazine, I was in love. Love all of
the custom treatments. Being able to own a kustom with kool history is priceless.
Can't wait to see it in Dewey, if it doesn't make it in time I'm going to have to make
a road trip back to Texas. I never thought I'd get the chance to see it in person.

Kongrats Mike on the kool find.

    Happy Trails fellow Merc brutha
