Made it to Pistons and Paint for a bit with #2.

Didn't bring the car though. I did manage to stay married though so that was good lolol.

Today I went out and tinkered with the car. Went back up on valve lash to .018 like the card says. Figured they are a lot smarter than me and if they call for 18 then I should stick with 18.

Also got the carb adjusted better I had the mix adjustment too lean hence my issues at stops and idling staying running without throttle manipulation. It's running better now and also allowed my to turn down the speed screw which I couldn't do before without it dying.

Still have the trans leak. Haven't jacked it up to assess yet.

I did take it for a drive again and it went a bit better. Wasn't dying at stops and now that I know how to properly use the trans it's actually starting in first and going through all three like it should (weird right?).

So I've been distracted with the engine swap and all the things but as some of you know I've kinda been over this car fir a while and the plan was always to swap the motor and then send it on its way.... well last Thursday or Friday I sent off a few messages to guys in the classifieds about possible trades. And made a deal with a guy. And his friend is actually heading to Ft Worth next week for a chop class and agreed to bring the new car down trade and bring the '55 back with him. So sometime probably Friday will be the end of my time with the '55 and the beginning of a new adventure with a '39 Ford tudor sedan.

I'll be sure to post pictures when it happens.

  5. When you say chop class and 39 Tudor, I’m guessing you are talking about the one Joel was selling? If so, thats a pretty cool car. :D

That's the one... seems like a pretty solid car.
Sorry inwas so cryptic. Always had this thought in my head that if I really go nuts with announcing something before it actually happens and posting pics and telling everyone that sure enough something will come up and it will fall through. Lol.

Already had been talking with @Tim about a no kids trip to the roc next year. So if all goes well it will be there too.

We'll have to do a stump pulling test so the flathead at least has a chance to be competitive at something lmfao.

Yours will probably sound better. What sounds better than a flathead v8?

Welp.... didn't make a deal. Fixed the pan leak on my car and naturally it started leaking from somewhere else..

Need to do something different with throttle linkage cause that socks.

Got some things to fix and then I'll try again.

It’s the ford saying “snow?!? Fuck you man, snow?! Your sending me to Colorado? I DONT think so dude!”

You need at least a few oil changes before you let this one go I say.

    Welp.
No deal, then the in-laws came down to TX for Thanksgiving, then I got a pretty nasty cough/sinus infection (tmi sorry lol) and finally last night felt better so I went out to the garage and got to work fixing the throttle pedal situation.

Got a knock off lokar throttle pedal and cable set. Didn't really care for the way it looked so I modified it to work with the factory pedal instead of the crappy billet looking pedal it came with.

Pics should explain what I did.

Then on the engine bay Side. I removed the factory linkage setup I had installed. The intake mounted linkage probably could have been adjusted to work since I expect the firewall mounted lever part was the real problem. But I opted to remove it all and go straight cable from pedal to carb.. Bent up a strip of metal into an angle with 1 longer leg. Then welded a second piece to utilize both intake mounting holes and keep things from shifting and moving around. Shortened the cable and hooked it all up. Still need to get a helper to operate the pedal while I conform it's getting WOT but it seems like it is and there's still some adjustment if it's not there yet.

Then I pulled it apart so I could paint the bracket and went to bed.

Update my oldest just came out and helped me..... we have full WOT.

Next up... kickdown linkage for the trans. And then finish up with cleaning up the trans and trying to find where it's leaking from.... but I'm seriously considering taking it somewhere for the leak since I've now tried a couple times unsuccessfully. But I'm going to clean it up first and see what I can find before I make that call.

Thanks for the info... it's definitely a white dot/ green dot/ low. Once I realized that and started driving it that way the shifting all made sense. Now I just need to find and fix the leak.

That sounds like convertor drain back. When not running, the convertor will drain back some on most transmissions. A slightly lose convertor cooler line can allow air to enter the convertor when not running and make it drain back quickly. The most common spot for it to leak in a drain back scenario would be at the fill tube seal or the selector shaft seal. Transmission fluid will really travel and it is tough to pinpoint the leak unless you clean the exterior really well.

If it is leaking inside the bell housing I would suspect that the trans is actually over filled.
