Guys, I like over achievers and to me, this has to be at or very near the top. A 3450# 55, all steel, all glass, full interior, legal NHRA SS, 265 complete w/4GC. Runs 11.20’s How does he do it ??? “Listen to the lil’ mouse roar”
I had that conversation with one of my buddies, when i was a teenager i always heard the tri five Chevy referred to as a shoebox, and when i got older, that's what they called the new style of the 49 Ford. He told me that he'd never heard a Chevy called a shoebox, but i had heard it a lot.
LLoyd, seems the Ford guys claimed the term! ''Shoebox'' doesn't fit the shape of either, to me. But that '55 kicks ass!
Tri Five Chevys were called “Shoebox” because mol, they look like a box. Smooth sides, square ends ... The "shoebox" design, so named because it was the first Chevrolet to feature streamlined rear fenders, was a watershed for Chevrolet.
SBC’s have always been over achievers. As mentioned in another thread, SBC’s are the most handicapped (to even things up) engines racing South East Gassers. I took my first ride in a 9000 RPM SBC in 1964. Ever heard of Charles Carpenter ? My neighbor !
Always heard the tri-five Chevys referred to as "shoeboxes", maybe from reading all the Chevy related magazines for......ever, didn't hear of the Fords called that till seeing it on the HAMB.
Although that '55 is pretty damn impressive, I'm a hard core Ford guy. Shoebox = '49-'51 Fords Shitbox = Chevys
Had a friend who raced a 265 in M/P in the seventies would complain about not having a tack that went over 10k.
Shoebox is regional unless you are a hardcore car magazine guy. Her in SWMO, shoebox = Ford, tri five = Chevy. At least that is how it worked throughout my childhood/teenage years.
