Interesting that YOU (anyone) would have to buy it as a street rod and then buy the parts to make a hot rod out of it. I guess the percieved buyer is a chainer, not a hot rodder.

    But a nice car.

I'm thinking my left nut isn't worth $65,000.00.

You don't own a car like this ..you pay to be the next caretaker.

  10. I think Don Orosco is selling it. He has some nice historical cars.

Stance, history, and all the real parts can't go wrong with this one

  12. It was at the Monterey acution and was estimated to bring $135,000-165,000.00 but it didn't meet reserve.

  13. Still a beautiful rod, all these years later!

    Wow- what a beautiful car.
IMO- it's historic & should bring a good price. As for if it's worth the reserve (probably 65k), I believe it is because it's the genuine article.
You only get one shot at the Magoo roadster. Anything else would be a tribute car.
Man- pretty cool the owner has all the goodies to turn the clock back on this icon.

Did I miss something? Why is the " but it now" only $65,000 when Monterey guess was $100,000 more?

Certainly a cool, neat roadster. Always loved it as well.

Take a quick look at the 2nd question someone asked. Some folks are just plain silly.

Look up "understated" in the dictionary and you will see a pic of that car.

I've always loved the cars that Dick built. That said I sure would be tempted to take the 4-bars off and substitute some hairpins or split bones.

I agree it is a nice car, but if you were around when he still had his shop, you would have seen he built the same car over and over, just different colors. About the only car that was different was the Ferrari powered roadster, and it was a really nice car.

I was very lucky to work for him in 86-87 and did quite a bit on the Roadster he built for the 87 Oakland Show....wish I had the show sign....he offered it to me but I was too flustered to accept......even had my name on the sign, too...

In my experience, lots of them are the same, but every one of them is different.

  28. Following that thought, how many would he actually have built, for customers?

  29. One of my favorite hiboys ... sure the 4-bars (and many other details) aren't "Traditional" ... but Magoo's cars always had "that look".

I thought it would be a good idea to archive the auction pics here in this thread (so they aren't lost when the auction ends):
