That blows, did it damage the rear 1/4 as well?

Glad you're all OK. That stuff can get ugly..

You ever see the Macguyver episode where he makes a ski out of a piece of wood to replace the busted wheel on an airplane??? It was pretty much just like that. Ryan's driving skills saved my life....

Just so glad that you are OK!

H.A.M.B. heroes to the rescue. I got to meet Doc at the LSRU. What a class act! And this isn't the 1st time he has gone out of his way to help people.

  11. Can you have ANYTHING longer than a few days before you either modify it, destroy it or sell it? Come by and see me (and you future daughter-in-law) sometime.

You should have driven the Model A :)

    Glad to hear you're okay.

  16. Ryan ... glad you & Joyo are OK.

I know it's of little consequence ... but cars can be fixed ... sometimes people can’t (I sat in traffic for 2 hours tonight due to a double fatality accident).

Many, many years ago, my father had a similar experience in the coupe … it was quite a wild ride … but like you, somehow he escaped running into something ... or getting hit by another car.

He was en route to the '74 NSRA Nats in St. Paul ... broke a rear axle on Hwy 80 near Sacramento (less than 100 miles from home):

NOTE: You can see more pics of the "wreck" by clicking HERE.

Like you, a fellow rodder came to the rescue with a trailer ... and we were able to continue our trip to the Nats (albeit without the Hot Rod) ... Two months later, the coupe was "as good as new" again.

Hang in there! ... and try to enjoy yourself at Hot Rod Cinematic.

    2. Even when you think it all sux, theres always a positive to come from the experience, and make you re-evaluate the things in your life that matter. Props to all involved in pointing you back in the right direction, something we can all learn from.

    Cheers,

    Drewfus:)

Nothing gets your attention like making a three wheeler out of your four wheeler. This episode reminds me about losing the left rear off my 68 Camaro back in my teenage years. Mid burnout, something snaps and the rear end kicks hard to the right. I'm thinking what the hell happened? Then my buddy says, "hey man is that your tire?" We were stopped on the side of the road and there's my L60 bouncing down the road in front of us. We lived through it.

Glad you're OK and the HAMB family was there to help. In 1980 we just had a long walk back to town.

    Doc is the man.

Ryan, Are you going out of your way to bond with all your cars? I guess it's back to the 'soul' of the matter.

Good you're alright. Safe trip home!

  28. Some bad luck for sure. Glad everyone is O.K. It's gotta be comforting for all of us here (on the HAMB) to hear this story and know that there is this remarkable sense of "community" among fellow hot rodders that compels them to help out whenever a crisis develops. With all the recent stories about car thefts and related bad news, this goes a long way towards restoring my faith in humanity. Kudos to all who were involved in helping out. This story could have had a much more unhappy ending.......Don.
