A squirrel, whether it is a bushy tailed gray squirrel or just a plain old ground squirrel is just a rat with a better PR person.

  2. I call them tree rats and treat them accordingly.

Well you see there's an Undertaker Hotrod guy who is known as Squirrel was visiting his Sister's Art Studio and one of her students made a Squirrel who even 'The Squirrel' questioned it actually was in fact A Squirrel and we are debating what this huge fisted Stiffee is...in the Dead of the night in Hambsylvania...;)

See link below to witness said rodent...

I think you're All Nuts! Thanks for the ride, Jim. You seem to have a talented family, what is your brothers forte?

  8. About 11:22 A.M. Today.

  9. It wasn't until I was in my thirties that what we always called chipmunks are now called ground squirrels by a lot of people. I was forced to look up the chipmunks native to BC, and learned there are four separate subspecies in BC alone. I am sticking with chipmunk because I don't feel like learning any more new stuff today, my head is full. (Tribute to Gary Larson and the Far Side)

I’m late to the party on this adventure.
If Del Rhea’s chicken is still as good as when we drove Route 66 in 2011, I hope you took the time to eat there. That was some good grazin’!

Unfortunately we didn't have time to explore most of the checkpoints.

It was a tough drive getting out of San Diego County today. But I made it into Arizona, and got a room for the night. Plan to try to drive the rest of the way to Tucson in the morning, and get a ride home from there with my wife. In a modern car. That will be weird.

A couple pictures, out of order. Long hot climb from sea level to 4000+ ft, then quick drop back to sea level, and it ran cool the rest of the way. I spent time on the side of the road waiting for it to cool down several times. IMG_20181103_162842.jpeg IMG_20181103_174310.jpeg

Thanks for taking us along on your adventure. I still get a chuckle thinking of the picture of you two guys with the coats and hats with the dour expressions.

  22. Damn, wish I had seen this yesterday...You drove right past the house! Could have walked out the back door and waved as you drove through the busting metropolis of Alpine! Probably where you first thought "Uh oh, that's a big hill!" as you climbed the 6% grade into town.

Pretty cool thing, waken a car from a long slumber, drive it a long ways with relatively few problems, show us how its done, well done boys, great sharing time with you.

Yes I was thinking of the Hearse being a big old boat...but there was tragedy involved so I will search out a more suitable ship. Apologies...it was not meant to be negative just look like an old post card...

Again late to the adventure thread...
There is a cool neon sign
designed by Route 66 author Jerry McClanahan which sits over the Chamber of Commerce entrance in Gallup, NM.

You have to be looking for it but it is easy to find at night

  29. It actually looks great. I wasn't thinking about any tragedy aspect only that there's a few decades between the two.

It is interesting how much a few words or a picture can say...I was also thinking back then that big behemoth of a Boat was actually heading to New York but never made it.

The Lasalle Adventure was a laced with fun in a big dark carrier and even though you weren't implying negative connections I still rethought about using a perhaps more period ship and even a US built liner...

So I used the SS United States which was in active service in 1952 and didn't see the type of tragedy the Titanic did. It still exists and there is an effort underway to restore it apparently...

I also added a mild splash of color to it and it still has an old post card feel to it.
Another connection to the Big Ole Boat of a car was the trophy which was actually a boating trophy...:D
now sporting "The Lasalle"...and then of course there's the Chipmunk...or is that a Squirrel...to complete the Biology Class...:p...aspect of the trip

Many times here I am inspired to drum up a graphic reflective of a situation this was one of those...

Congratulations and thanks for sharing this Adventure @squirrel
It was fun for all of us...
