Nice work. Thanks for the tour. With your fabrication skills you can go back and forth between wood and metal readily.

Man, that's cool! I hope you see imitation as a form of flattery!

  6. Absolutely!
This project is full of other people's ideas. For instance, my wishbones/ladder bars...

I have kind of glossed over the rear suspension setup on this truck because I have not been convinced it would remain. I am using the '39 bones that came with the rear and I had made spacers to move them inboard a bit to clear the frame. They basically kept their same geometry and were connected with tie rods at the front.

There is a lot of info questioning the strength of the forgings so i have been looking for a way to use them safely. I just had to wait long enough for the Rolling Bones to solve my dilemma :). I figure if their cars can drive cross country and run speed trials with this setup, its good enough for my heap.

I got rid of the original spacers and made some tabs to move them inboard a bit more. I tapped some DOM and welded it up. I have yet to fully weld the tabs on the rear. I am a little concerned about warpage so it remains to be seen.

I am stealing that one. You know that, right?

  11. Have at it Mr.! Be forewarned, it only works if you use a Frosted Flakes box for your pattern.

  12. I made a spreader bar and then on to the fuel tank...

  13. The tank is suppose to be '31 Chevy car. The bottom straps are modified from the original under-seat gas tank straps that came with the seat riser (thanks Craigslist!)

  15. The counter says that people keep looking so I guess I'll keep posting.

This truck started life as a 1-1/2 ton so I had no bed. I found what was left of one locally and dragged it home a couple of years ago, took it apart and put it up on the shelf.

I had done my earlier wooden mockup, and knew how long I wanted it (that's what she said) so I jumped right in!

It is kind of beat to hell, but I was able to cut most of the bad stuff off. I started by drilling out the spot welds on the pockets so I could clean up some of the rust and Ospho it. They will not get permanently attached until the final finishes are applied (if I ever get to that point!:))

I ended up taking 5-1/2" off the front and almost 14" off the back.

Please keep posting as been following along with great interest.

  17. I welded and beat this pocket back into shape. The other one is a little worse so I'll rock the repop so as not to get slowed down.

Where's my drivers side exhaust pic Cactus1? Haha!! I need to put my mind at ease!

  25. Sorry dude! I'll post it on the other thread tonight. Pinky Swear!

  26. I did a little patching while it was still apart. Now, i just need to decide on how to mount it.

  27. On to the rear and taillights.I used tubing to tie the bedsides together at the back and made some braces to help keep everything square.

After much deliberation, I settled on these '34 Ford lights on modified '32 stalks. I was going to go with '55 Chevy truck stuff but the Chevy brackets are no where near as stylish as the Ford pieces.

The plate is just on with magnets right now as I check placement. I think I like where it sits. I need to figure out some sort of light for it though.

    Thanks for looking!

Looking Good!!! Man this truck is going to be killer.

  29. Here's a better pic of how it all goes together.

Oh, and I pretty much "borrowed" the taillight stands from NealinCA, so thanks Neal!
