This is what dreracecar figures happened. I'm pretty sure he's qualified to speculate.

"The dragster used a remote battery to start the car (vid of a person jumping over the car with cable) so a remote rear shutoff is not required. At that point if he was running Nitro the only way to kill it would be hitting the injection with a fire exting. or sombody hitting the fuel shutoff. Either way by just getting off the trans brake button would put the car in neutral. Reverse to high gear thru neutral requires a separate lockout mech and the change happened too quick to have one.It also appears in the vid that the throttle was sticking. Idle was high after the burn out, maybe after he got it into reverse and gave it some throttle, then he remembered that the button had to be depressed in order to back up. The rpm caught him and the wheels flopped over from the reverse jerk, spun him. Might have had his hand on the shifter and reverse lockout lever and some shifters have the button on the shift nob, pulled thru neutral into high (or low depending on valve body)and his hand came off the button and the car went foward along with the throttle hence slaming into wall WOT"

Glad to hear he's ok. A couple of broken ribs, could have been much worse.
As was said in the other thread, the rail can be re-built.
    A great event!

  16. 400 cars? Are they thinking about adding a day next year?

  17. The Meltdown is already two days of racing, plus Byron is open Friday for racers to setup and tech.

  18. Just curious.......thanks for the response. I was a bit surprised to read 30 to 400 cars in a few years.

We had the greatest 2 days of racing at the Meltdown Drags! What a fantastic event. 400 period correct cars, friendly staff, lots of visiting with racers from the upper Midwest and elsewhere, nice weather, and a true 60's vibe. We WILL be back next year.

How many people can say they drove a dragster into a concrete wall at full power and lived to tell about it. Sheesh.

A top notch show. We got there late Saturday night after attending Krome and Kandy in Minneapolis. We got in just in time for cocktails with the St. Louis gang. We were only there for the show on Sunday and it may already be my new favorite event of the year.

  27. Cool cars and great coverage....gotta get there!

I just Google mapped the dragway to see how close to my folks in Iowa. The image satellite passed over during an event. Cool shot.

That's pretty cool to see. Looks like there's an ambulance/safety crew tending to somebody in the shutdown area.
