    Hi Dean,
yeah I think Todd called it "TARANTULA". I don't think Todd was especially good at names.

Todd Doc Rawleigh probably deserves his own thread. A funny story .....after some Bakersfield meet Todd
told my dad and I to meet him at some Italian restaurant in town. Apparently it was the favorite after-race spot
and Todd was telling everybody about his double-blown Olds. Anyway Art Chrisman laughingly says you mean you had two motors. It was only funny as Todd's story and ego kinda shrunk on the spot (thinking his racing endeavors were well known I guess).

No I hadn't heard that. Announcer Bernie Mather comment was something like " you know why he named it
"Tarantula".....if you can see thru the blue plexiglas, just look at the driver inside. Bernie was great.
The name never got put on. I think Todd was amored with F1 with the body's open front nose and an earlier car where he ran the exhaust from each bank over the tire clear out the tail

Marty,is that similar to a “Ranger” aircraft engine? There was an older gentleman who had a car much like that one at a nostalgia drag meet locally, and when I stopped to ask him about the car,he was nice enough to take about a 1/2 hour and tell me about building and racing it,and the general racing scene back then.I recall him saying the engine was a “Ranger”,and that it only wanted to rev to around 4500 rpm initially, but that it had so much torque you could gear the car real tall, and just let it eat up pavement.

Seen a 6-pak setup on a 426 HEMI mounted on a display stand at the Woodward cruise some years back... Wish I got picture of it....

It certainly looks aircraft. But the Ranger was a 6 cylinder 440 cid engine. Maybe he used barrels off of a radial and made his own crankcase. It would be nice to know about.

Menasco built various aircraft engines from 1928 to 1944.

The Rangers were also aircraft, but found their way into sprint cars and such.

Thanks for the info ! I saw the car run in 1963, the guy was Ken Beebe, who also ran Arduns before and after this one.
