Just for fun, this poor, poor Holden. (although not H.A.M.B appropriate, strictly)

As far as I know, that was a common problem with FED's in general, lawn mower blown or otherwise.

That was Don Enriquez he worked (still does?) at Hilborn. He partnered with Gene Adams, another Hilborn alum, on the Top Gas turbo deal. They also had a killer DeSoto Junior Fuel Car.

Thanks!, its one hell of a set up, always wondered if the air being forced through the injectors like that would have a negative effect or not, given that I've always seen injectors mounted "above" the blower in the flow of air.

    Hello,

A little overlooked in the complete Jack Chrisman Corner of the Lions Dragstrip Museum event was the Chrisman Comet from 1964. All of the accolades in the display started with his early history in drag racing, all the way to winning the Nationals in the Twin Bear and the Thunderbird car. (57-62)

From 1957-62 numerous old trophies, tons of record holder jackets, old driver’s suits, Model A sedan, were all part of the display. As one made it around this corner to the right, after the “Twin Bear” display from the 60’s, was the latest display for the Jack Chrisman era.
    upload_2017-11-10_9-56-41.png
Everyone was amazed at the early display items and when it came to the Comet, the motor was the most prominent thing about the race car.

    Jnaki

    And…what a motor it was.

The Comet on fuel running direct drive, smoking the tires the whole quarter and running in the 8’s was enough for Dodge to send notice for the Dodge Chargers exhibition cars not to match race the Comet under any circumstances.

Gavin Tittle, that would have been Gene Adams. Gene told me it was rather difficult to tune especially with weather changes. Don Enriquez driving?

Damn! Great shots of that thing!
Thanks so much for the info, old rail dragsters are easily my favorite cars (well, the AA/FA class is in there as well) but being seventeen, info and people willing to give me the time of day can be hard to come by

  17. Yes, but I do not think they ran it very long on the car.

BB Chevy MOON Fuel Injection using Bosch timed injection. Metering done by Ryan Falconer and timing cover custom cast by Donovan. The Bosch pump is mounted to the timing cover and sits in the middle of the manifold.

Very early Hilborn 2 port such as those seen in the first photos of Potvin blown motors. Just says "Hilborn Injection Pat Pend". No city listed, and no number stamped into it either. Notice it also has very small butterflies for a small cubic inch motor. Very different from the 2 port Hilborn sells today. Could possibly be one of the first 2 port injectors they were testing.

SB Ford Mickey Thompson magnesium "Ram Jet" crossram. Currently set up as an injector but can also use early

NOS Oberhausen supercharger circa 1950s with matching early staggered bolt sandcast SB Chevy valve covers, instruction manual, and original hand drawn pencil blue prints. The Oberhausen supercharger is a centrifugal vane-type supercharger that is driven at high rpm on-demand by an electric starter motor. I have all of the original gears, bushings, shafts, etc to make this a functioning unit. Bolts to any standard 4 barrel intake.

"Sandcast" Holley Dominator carb as used by early NASCAR and Pro Stock teams. This is the first type of Dominator that Holley was experimenting with before they ever went into mass production. This is the standard 4500 model with the same bolt pattern as modern Dominators. There was also a 4600 model that was even larger for use in IR (Individual Runner) applications: flowed over 2000 cfm and had a larger bolt pattern. Note the squirter is actually cast into the main body. Restrictors have been installed underneath the butterflies to reduce cfm. Boosters are actually installed by hand and peened in place.

Early Edmunds 312 Ford Y-Block 3x2 setup with Stromberg 97's. I've seen several 2x4s but hardly ever come across a 3x2.

    This is interesting!!!

And my last bit of unobtanium porn for the evening, an NOS Briar MacKay experimental "Floatless Weber" intake. Looks like an early Crower injector base with a hollow fuel cooler in the middle and custom risers added on top which mimic a Weber 48 IDA carb. Basically its like having 4 carbs connected by 2 common shafts with butterflies just like any other injector. The fuel passages, fuel/idle mixture screws, jets/jet holders, etc would all be just like a Weber 48 IDA carb. However, there would be no float bowl so it would be a constant flow just like an injector. I guess you could say it's a hybrid between an injector and a carburetor. Either way, I still love it!

    Hey MM,
You mentioned Bill Pitts. I was standing about 8 feet away when I recorded this short video at the Lions Dragstrip Museum's 2nd "cackle display" towards the end of the event. Usually, these events go on into the darkened evening.

But, because it was in the West Coast summer, the sun did not go down until almost 9 p.m. So, the cackle was just colorful race cars, tingling in the nose/eyes and the only race car that showed any flaming exhaust was Bill Pitts' Magicar. It was a great event...

  23. Thanks for the video JNAKI. Mr. Pitts usually has Ricky McDonald doing the tune, he also maintains that barking hemi. I am sure you have seen him in action, very talented guy with the cackle cars.
