Great long running title and discussion of facts... with photos and information.
One of the most unusual race cars back in 1959 was Dallas Martinson’s Potvin style supercharged Hemi FED. We had seen plenty of Potvin style supercharged systems on other drag racers. The angle of this 671 blower is unusual, but the front suspension was most unique during this early time period in December of 1959 at Riverside Raceway.
The yellow painted FED stood out in the pits area and drew us like bees on flowers. Then to see the unusual intake system was most appealing. Innovations during this time period were rampant as the need to go faster than the others made it so.
During the eliminations he was one of the first to race Tommy Ivo and his newly assembled twin injected Buick FED.
But, as things go, nothing was going to stop the NEW, powerful, twin injected Buick FED of Tommy Ivo.
We were fortunate that Riverside Raceway was in a raw state. No barriers and folks stood on the actual track as well as the top of the cliff sides running the whole length of the raceway. But, at the starting line, it was a little scary with the action and supreme noise, while filming.
1959 Riverside Dallas Martinson yellow FED (SORRY, NO SOUND.)
But,this is what Tommy Ivo sounded like in late 1959-60:

Not sure what I'm looking at, On the NZ thread...
OK came across a LARGE selection of old and repop copies of old FLATTY intakes so watch for them over several posts. Sorry I can't tell which is which so you are on your own.
