it's funny, i found one of those in my stash while looking for stuff to make a hub puller from yesterday. not sure how i could use it in this application though. i think i need to make something specific to my application.

one step forward, 1/2 step back.

had to do a water pump in my wife's DD today, and when restarting the 54 at the parts store, it sheared a starter bolt. got to wait for 2 hours for AAA to send a truck. the kid was a total d-bag. but we got it loaded an dropped off at home.

got becky's car fixed today. and i guess i know what i'm doing tomorrow. i really hope it's just a bad bolt and not some horrible nightmare of sheared ring gear teeth or some other terrible mess. but we'll see...

  6. The crossmember looks great Mark! Are those '46 bones?
Bummer about the starter. Got my fingers crossed for you that it's minor.

    bones are 46.

i hope it's an easy fix too, mike. a complicated fix makes my plans for both the 54 and 34...complicated.

    will know more tomorrow.

Hope it didn't crack the Y-block bellhousing...we had a ration of those in 1959 at Mayfield's Garage! (broken Y-block cams, too. 5 pieces sometimes! More than 10 examples!)

Nevertheless, I was and am a hopeless Y-block diehard. Ran a '56 convert at Fremont drags in '58-'59, 292 stick car, 'stock'. 92 MPH in high 14s. Seriously 'tuned'...

concerning the '54, i think the starter came loose and snapped an ear right off. and since the rear main seal needs to be done anyway, i think the engine is getting pulled for a gasket and paint 'rebuild'. and the rear is gonna get some service too.

now to find a fordomatic car bellhousing. anyone?

  12. I know the '54 is back together. I demand an update on the '34! And what's this about a T? That means we now share 3 similar cars (yours are cooler and more doner though, ha!) it's like we're brothers from another mother!

so well, i uh...the 34 has been kicking my ass. it's not something i can articulate here for some reason. maybe i can explain it better in joplin. i'll have 1,600 miles to think about it. it isn't a technical thing. it's emotional. and i can't get to the root of it.

i have been working on some little things. front crossmember replacement. firewall finish welding. body inner structure assembly(at the bottom of the trunk).

    nothing really pic worthy.

By the way, WHERE did you get that pic of my face?

  16. I'm glad that you are able to work on it at least a little bit.

That roadster looks pretty cherry! I just got the tires mounted for mine this weekend...

I see the roadster is up for sale because "you have an itch"

...try some blue ointment and a hot shower, that might help

...then maybe it's time to get going on the '34 again???????

Hell yeah, working on the coupe should take care of that itch. If that doesn't work try some balm or salve. "who told you to put the balm on ??"

nope. not yet. not much major progress yet. i have been busy reclaiming my shop from the Race of Gentlemen thrash though.

Bought 30 ft of pallet racking, and have been assembling that on the back wall and putting things away. Since the RoG, we've accumulated about 15 or 16 engines, something that claims to be a 32 sedan body, and a bunch of other stuff. And it just got out of hand.

I have been getting packages from various places around the country though, so there will be something to see fairly soon.

There are a few things at work here, Rocky. First, I am terrible about taking my camera into the shop, so I rarely get good pics. Second, I just started school again, and am buried in my new schedule until I get used to the pace. Third, and probably more important, I sorta think this car is mostly between me and my dad, and I am not sure how much of the process I want to share and take the focus away from his memory as I work on the car.

I guess that's where I am with the whole thing.
