I have some time during the week now, and figured I was out of excuses for the complete standstill on the hot rod build. So, I have managed to make some progress that is barely noticeable photographically, but it is progress nonetheless.

The frame still needs some work. A few patches here and there will take care of most of it, but i need a good stock front cross member too. mine is kinda thin in the center. But, it's on its own 4 wheels. And the engine is in the same building, so that's a plus.

The body sits on a TCI street rod frame right now, as that was the direction my dad was going to take it. But I am rescuing it from that fate.

Anyway, I have talked too much already. Here are a few pics of where I am at now.

    That looks great....

  3. I was thinking about if you'd done anything with your fathers car just the other day, still looks great, similarly like your goal of switching back to the period chassis, what happened to your 5 window?

    Cheers,

5w is still in the corner. will likely be 324 rocket powered, on the aftermarket chassis that came with it, modified with Model A crossmembers. i also have a 9 inch rear, for it too. but that body needs so much work, that i need some more experience before i tackle that.

the relatively unmodified chassis that i am working on now is easy in comparison, i think.

Oh god that looks awesome and I am super stoked for ya!!! Rocket? I think I'm in love!!

One thing to consider is using a model a front crossmember (stock or flattened) in place of that '34 unit. Might get you down another inch or two so that you can use more springs and get a better ride.

If you can wait a while, I'll give you my front crossmember out and give it to you because I plan on running a model a unit. I plan on leaving my car up really high for a while but want the option of hunkering it down perhaps later when I redo it.

  10. Looks like an awesome start.

Please keep us posted on your progress.

You ever get a chance to play around with those spears for the '54?

thanks fellas. like you say jay, a little bit every day.

JJ- the 5w is gonna get the Rocket. this is getting the Thunderbird 312, .030 over, T-bird valve covers, Offy 3 deuce intake with 97s, rams horn manifolds, etc.

dave, haven't played with the spears yet. but they are mocking me for my procrastination.

jeff- i have a spare model a frame, but it seems to me that the front member is too narrow. i know that they used them to drop the front a couple inches, but i thought they also had to box the frame to make the ends of the cross member meet the frame.

i dunno. i am sure i can figure something out. chris said he has a cross member he would part with, so i might go that route too. if i still need one when you take yours out, i'll let ya know.
