A small sampling. I have several pair of DeSoto, with Firedome / Fireflite wire covers.

*I have had several inquiries; the Red Rams are not for sale at this time. I suppose the $50.00 on the one is mis-leading; that is how I found them. Sorry for the confusion.*

Just a set of standard Chrysler covers around an old shop diagram. FirepowerPoster.jpg
I'm liking all these pictures of covers with lights in them. Might have to do that with some of the covers I've got hanging everywhere.

@scotty t What's the story on what looks to be Chrysler covers stamped Plymouth? I've never seen any like this.

Here're DeSoto finned valve covers on an SBC.
(Notice I didn't say it was a Hemi SBC.)

Those started out as dodge power giant (chrysler) covers then were embossed and chromed for my 354 going in my 48 plym business coupe. Somewhere on this site is a thread on the embossing process

    Hello,

When we were getting started with our drag racing adventures, we were used to Buick motors, Oldsmobile motors and the ever present new SBC motors. The big Hemi motors were not even considered for our hot rods or street cruisers. We saw those Hemi motors on most of the early FED race cars at the dragstrips.

One of the nicest builds was the Kenny Lindley/Don Hampton FED streamlined front Potvin style supercharged Hemi.

Later on in 1959, we happened to see a wide array of Hemi powered FED race cars in the Riverside Raceway Drag Meet.

The “standard” power set up on a big Hemi motor for the times was the twin Hilborn Injectors on any size GMC Supercharger, 471 or 671. The 371 and 871 units were not highly regarded at this time for any applications. The standard twin injector Hilborn scoop did not come out until into the early 1960 era.

One of our favorite non So Cal racers was the sleek black FED of Bobby Langley from Texas. It was one of the nicest full bodied streamlined race cars. Its big Hemi Motor stood out with lots of power. It had the coolest injector scoop with fins to match the design. A hand made scoop with some cool fins on top.

I'm aware that the flat-head screws are not period correct; don't remind me.

  20. I recently replaced my Firepower covers with Marine ones to get the adjustable valve popups. Strictly a vanity move.

Great minds think alike! This is what my basement bathroom looks like w/ HEMI valve cover light, license plate corner shelves, and SBC to early Ford trans adapter mirror:

I suspect these are very rare. If you know anything about them please let me know.

I would sure love to sell them.

I was at nostalgia car shoe/drag race last year in Dunn NC. Front dragster there with 392 Hemi, had set of old Donovan's with Chrysler Fire Power stamped into aluminum valve covers.
Stamped, not the normal script like originals? Been trying to find a set, no luck, and if I happen to find a set, I am pretty sure I could not afford them.

  27. Searching for Hen's Teeth: I'm looking for a MAG set of Donovan 417 covers? I have aluminum ones, but really want to go back to MAG - (blower is MAG, injector is MAG, etc). Anybody know of a set knocking around?

    Hello,

It was December 1959 and labeled the last drag race of the year. It was a super “BIG” drag race that had all of the top racers from all over the USA in attendance. The rivalry was there between the Westcoast racers and everyone else, to we all had our favorites. Garlits, Langley, the Greek, Speed Sport, Chrisman Brothers, Cyr/Hopper, etc… this list was long and included other top racers, too. Riverside Raceway was the location and it was the biggest drag race in the last of the 50’s drag race scene.

A lot of the FED race cars had the big Hemi motors and added the 471 and 671 superchargers with the injection from Hilborn. My predicament is that over the years the films lay dormant and still in their metal reels and protective silver cans, we forgot or lost the paper with most of the names of the racers of the time.

I am in the process of trying to get the certified names of those old racers that are a part of this big historic film project that I am trying to get together for a reference library at a So Cal university library. Once labeled, the classifications will showcase what racers looked like in living color and the racing that took place.

    Jnaki

So, with the popularity of the Hemi Motors prominent in the Top Fuel and Gas Classes, would anyone know their history or can document the names of those on this film that shows this Red FED race car?

Please contact me via the HAMB conversation tab and/or PM... If documented, you will get contributor credit on the project +++

    Thank you in advance…
